Series 3 Tyres in UK.
Discussion
I need to replace my tyres.
I would like to keep the original rims.
Is there an alternative to the Pirelli P600 rear / P6000 fronts in the UK?
I know that Dunlop SP Sport 8000s in a 50 profile have been recommended, but these do not seem to be available in the UK.
Alternatively, is importing a set of Dunlops a realistic prospect?
Thanks,
Pat.

Pat,
The P-600 is a very fine Tyre (sp; in deference to our British Cousins). But I think the Dunlops may edge them out on performance albeit slightly.
It would certainly not be very cost prohibitive to ship a set of Dunlops from the states, but I would wonder if they would be 'legal' in the UK.
US tires must be DOT (Dept. of Transportation) approved to be sold here. I suspect that the UK has a similar certification required from their DOT counterpart. The only time this may come into issue would be if you had an MOT inspection or an insurance claim as a non-approved tires may void your coverage, even if the tires were in no way connected to the claim.
That having been said, I suspect that some reciprocity arrangement exists between Britain and the Commonwealth. Perhaps if you checked with say a Canadian supplier you could accomplish procuring a set of Dunlops.
As an aside, I find it ironic that the British cannot procure a British tire. It truly is a 'Mondo Bizzaro'. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE
Research suggests that the only tyre available for the rear is the Pirelli 235/60 WR15 P600. There is simply nowt else available in the UK.
Fronts are a different matter. The closest match to a Pirelli rear would be a 195/60 P6000.
I would, however, like to dial out some of the noticeable understeer.
It has been suggested that I consider the 205/50 or 215/50 P6000.
Any views?
Thanks, Pat
