I'm running an electric fuel pump (Facet Silver top) connected to a Ford 32/36 DGV Carb. The Carb is one with a return feed to the tank.

If the output of the pump is rated at 4 to 4.5 psi do I need a fuel pressure regulator or, under normal circumstances, should the return feed cope with the unwanted pressure at idle??

I remember reading somewhere that the needle valve in these Carb's are normally good for 3.5 to 4 psi before the fuel bleeds past and upsets things.

Any words of wisdom welcome.

A pressure regulator would be advisable on any carb. I think one with a filter bowl is worth having.

I used ot run one of these pumps in conjunction witha pair of '40's and before I fitted the regulator fuel used to dribble out of the bell mouths at idle.....

Once I fitted a regulator this went away

If you have a return to the tank from the carb, that pump is not making enough pressure to worry about, dont bother with a reg.
