Hi fellas,

I'm piecing together quite a tasty speed event on the Cerbera forum and am looking for a number of exotica to run in a 1 mile sprint. Full details here....

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=388939

Cheers!!

Any reason for the mile? Inspiration from a video maybe

The outcome of a challenge like this can be engineered by using particular distances so the variables of power / torque, traction, and aerodynamics take a different pecking order.

If it takes place in August or later you can count on an LP640 appearing.

Didn't clarkson do this ages ago and the Cerbera walked away from every other supercar out at the time? In the late 90's iirc. Be interesting to see how the new breed compare!

Well a new video should be made in August, in Clarkson's words "the cars that can reach 60 in less than 4 seconds" hehe, I'm hoping the results will be different but we'll all see on the day.

something strange about that clarkson video? i'm reliably informed it was a boggo std cerb, but the way it romped away all of a sudden was just wierd, must have been great publicity for tvr, as everyone remembers that race.
no lambo there as jezza said it got beat in a previous run with an aston, but that aston was a stripped out mule at a drag strip not a production car?
if a diablo was there could it have done the biz?
friends that know say yesscratchchin

not sure of the year this was done maybe 95 or 96, but the quicker diablo then would be rwd.

I've had a think about this (both the August event and the top gear trial), what was the distance used for the TG test? I think that in those days a VT would gain an unbeatable advantage under a mile. These days, staying on topic, many of Sant'Agata's greatest would take the lead early on under a mile, but anything greater than that and something with silly horsepower and long gearing would take the crown, then again, given 5 miles, even the fastest point to point ultima (usually tuned for acceleration between twisties?) would be crushed by a standard LP640 IMO, the CGTs and GT3 RS will prove the biggest PITA initially, either way I can't help but feel that the Lamborghini contingent won't disappoint.

I could always use the "running in" excuse, but I hope to have a few miles under my belt by then.

Are you taking a manual or a flappy paddlist???

looking at jezzas LP vs Golf the Flappy paddler's trick launch control is going to give those blackpool ironmongers a serious issue getting off the line, and given the TG top speed test was done at dunsfold over a 1800m runway with a terminal top speed of 207mph and the cerbera boys predicting a max top end of 170mph surely the LP is going to take the crown?

Manual (for the first time in over a decade) not that I'm finding excuses or anything. AFAIK this particular test is just over a mile total (I'd like to know exact specs), and given the standard braking distance, I presume we will only get 8/10ths of that in pedal to the floor mode. If I get a go against Boss Cerbera or Brumie, I will be under a reasonable amount of pressure to test the car and will depend on initial acceleration and terminal Vt as the tuned Cerberas have quite some grunt from what I've seen, if a CGT turns up, I will be trying my best to at least match it!!, The Ford and SL600 aren't really in my sights to be honest, the GT is the closest competitor, however it lacks in the BHP-weight stakes, but as has been said, we'll see on the day.

I was planning a few trips to Cannes in the summer, but it looks like I'll have to step this up in terms of mileage ready for August as I want the car fully loosened up and ready for a fight, I'd prefer to have it over 2000miles before giving it 100%.

Edited for spelling

hey GKP it's a runway strip 1 mile long rolleyes

going back to the 4wd v rwd, i would regard the se30 the quickest diablo of that era, i honestly don't think the vt wouldn't trump it at all, check the tested figures of both cars, not knocking the vt but it isn't as quick anywere.
regarding some of the other cars likely to take part in the august event autocar recently did the same test, i think the 599 just pipped the 640? but it was much more than a 1 miler from memory?

Line up a mid-90s Diablo (4WD or 2WD) against a Cerbera and find out? FWIW I don't think a Diablo of this vintage could beat a Cerbera. Prove me wrong?

I've "compared" my '02 Diablo 6.0 against earlier Diablos and found it to be a lot quicker. Video (Remember, trackday rules mean no overtaking on the right!)

I also had an impromptu comparison, in the 6.0, with Nickccc's 440bhp Red Rose Cerbera and the 6.0 couldn't shake it up to 150 when we ran out of space.

How much faster is an LP640 than a 6.0? How much faster than the best Red Rose Cerbera is the Boss?

August 12.... I'm looking forward to it. smile
