Just reading through the mails and I've noticed that the world has gone 996 Turbo mad.
Are they the car to have at the moment. Will be be a called a classic.
I Sold my 996 X50 Last month and I must admit they are brilliant cars and if it wasn't for the
996 RS that was replacing it, I would be missing it even more.
Do you guys think that at the currant price that the Turbos are going for now days
that they are a bargin.
I do.

Ive been bigging up the 996tt on this forum for about 2 years and fending off the usual its 4wd,lardy,understeery etc from the so-called purists.Very simple the 996tt is an awesome everyday road car that has virtually no competition as an 'allrounder' sports car.The best vehicle i have ever owned(out of 60) .My only concern with the car is there were a lot made and every other Porsche i seem to see is a 996 variant, also i think the 996 shape will unfortunately go down as the least good looking 911 ever..all imo of course.

It does seem like absolutely everyone and their dog want one right now.
Hopefully a few more will fall into the hands of people who can't drive properly so that a few more get written off, then they will become rarer and rarer

Im working on that........ 1 down, a few more to go yet... Doh does that mean I cant drive properly, doh, tree? what tree? doh.

Kinda new to the whole 911 thing myself but here is my two cents for what its worth.
I’m on the hunt for a 996tt and here is how I decided what to go for.
I started by selling my almost new Lotus Elise Sports Racer because it was basically woefully underpowered for what I wanted and was depressingly predictable in its build quality - ie it didn’t have any.
So with a budget of about £45k I decided that I want another 2 door sports car that was proper quick, handled well, looked great and was reliable - oh and the M3 was out because I just can't bring myself to own a 3 series BMW, can't explain why but that's just how it is (even though it is obviously a stunning car and well priced)
So to my mind I'm left with pretty few choices. TVRs are fantastic but not reliable enough whilst most of the others cars I can think of fall in to one or more of the following categories (beyond and above the power, handling and reliability):-
Hairdresser’s car
Crazy expensive to look after
Way too impractical
So a 911 it is since I don't like the shape of the Boxter, think it needs more power and some would say comes perilously close the first category above!
I’m also looking for something pretty modern that I can use as a main car so in my mind at least I am narrowing in on a 02 onwards 996. And then I notice two important things:-
- First that the MUCH faster turbos are priced not that much above the other 996 models these days, especially the C4S which has the shape I prefer.
- Second, the Turbo engines seem to have a substantially better reputation for reliability than the rest of the models since they are derived from the GT1 engine unlike the others (is this true?).
So put it all together and I, at least, come to the conclusion that if I'm going to shell out a huge wedge of cash for a 996 I might as well go for a slightly older Turbo, get the huge power gain and hopefully the greater reliability.
Now just need to find a good’un!
Probably the ramblings of a madman but there we are. It would not be the first time!

Nothing wrong with your thinking there. Go get a good un. You will love it.

So do you think it will become an icon and demand classic status in years to come.
I know that theres a lot of them around but when I was selling mine it went in days.
I could of sold it 5 times over.

I doubt it as there are simply too many about. dont forget the production line ran from 2000 through to 2006 ending with the Turbo S so there will always be plenty about
what there will be however, is a very good market for good history (and not necessaarily low mileage) well maintained and specified non modified cars with good colour combinations, exactly mirroring the current state of the 996 market
as the turbo are light years ahead of the NA cars (excl GT3) their prices will level out and i really sturggle to see a well maintained good spec/condition turbo ever dropping below a value of £35/40
