Question for Madcop / BiB's.
Discussion
Wondering if the KSI figures include those caused by sources other than just plain "speed"?
What i mean by that is, if a scrote has nicked a car is being persued (or not) and kills himself/someone else, does that particular one, if caused by his speed/lack of control etc get counted towards the KSI's for a particular road or area?
Also the same question applied to all other "illegals".
Thanx for any help or indeed light you can throw on this.

What does KSI stand for?
Speaking of KSIs, there was a great article in the Stratford Herald last week....
Headlined "Speed cameras credited with 45% cut in accident blackspot deaths", it went on to talk about KSIs not deaths. The number of actual deaths was not reported at all, just total KSIs (57 in 2002, down from "an average of 104 between 1994 and 1998" -- I wonder what happened in 1999-2001?).
Of course, the Police spokesman said the results were "encouraging", and that "increased camera usage .... has seen a substantial reduction in the number of people injured [sic] on Warwickshire's roads".
The article went on to say that Warwickshire's figures are "now better than the national average", and concluded that "the team plan to introduce more cameras on roads with a history of speed-related collisions".
So we go from deaths, to KSIs, to injuries, to collisions, in one article. Very clever manipulation of the truth, or just careless use of English?
BTW, what is the definition of KSI? What's classified as a "serious" injury? Anyone know?

Yes they are included. If an acident occurs during a Police pursuit and someone is injured or killed as a result, then if the contributory factors include an element of excess speed, then it is included on the accident report form which contains the statistics given to local authorities.

KSI is killed or seriously injured. It takes into account all road accidents - which is why the likes of TRL323 show that 7.3% of accidents have speed as a contributory factor.
Serious injury involves being in hospital overnight, IIRC.
There is much fudging of figures from various police areas, switching between deaths/KSIs/accident injuries to try and back up cameras whatever the outcome. The only statistic to maintain its trend is the cash raised, which is ever increasing.
Just what i thought, but hardly right and proper.
The scrote nicking cars and getting chasers is already operating outside the law when he commits his speeding offence, so why should his KSI be counted as one of the "everyday" ones?
This really, really stinks bigtime.
We need to kick up a fuss regarding this, im gonna kick it off in my local paper soon, and then start doing some other things to make it known.
Fixing figures, its a labour thing.
Oh and thanx for all the replies guys.
