Discussion
Just come back from a 'chat' with the local speed camera partnership peeps as they kindly visited my place of work.
After listening to him preaching on that speed kills, I put the following question to the representative:
"with all this emphasis on speeding, what is being done about the continual drop in driving standards I see on the road every week".
and his carefully constructed answer was:
(waves hand across the crowd gathered around him)
"it's you."
to which i replies:
"not me guv'nor"
and he rhetorts:
"i very much doubt it. don't you ever have your off days?" (smirking)
me:
"of course i do, but i don't go around tailgating and taking risks et etc"
he had no answer beyond that. CVNT.
I mean FFS!!
So he was obviously saying that we are responsible for our own conduct on the road but we need nannying when it comes to 'speed'.
These people are just brainwashed and incapable of independent thought!!
ARRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHH.
OK rant over sorry just had to get it off my chest.

Yes I'm afraid that we have a problem with the police. Anyway, for dangerous driving, its not you, its THEM.
Out for a walk on a country a few years back. Hear the noise of a screaming engine coming fast. Gets kids and dog right back out of the the way. Sure enough round the corner comes this Mondeo doing about 60 and in a drift on a single track road. I wave him down and ask what he thinks he is doing.
Quote - " I am a police officer and I hold a licence to practice pursuit driving. You will find I am entirely within my rights and in any case the car was fully under control."
Turned out he was a retired traffic policeman and full time prick. Complained to Chief Constable. Doubt if any action was taken.

So not a problem with the Police then, if he was retired. The man may be an idiot but at least he's not a police officer.
I often think that the standard of driving has declined because poor drivers are allowed to continue driving until they really smash up big time.......I'll explain......
"When I was a lad" (or once upon a time)
If you had a bump, you HAD to inform the police, more often than not, a BiB would attend the incident. Then one of the drivers would get the blame and prosecuted for Without due care & attention, Careless or dangerous driving, resulting in a minimum of 1 endorsement on your licence.
In those days, 3 endorsements meant a minimum of a 6 months ban, so you looked after your licence more.
Now-a-days, so long as a bloody speed camera doesn't get them, they can bash into anyone, then exchange insurance details and if there are no injuries, the BiB don't want to know, so besides the car, the only thing that gets a ding is their bank balance for their next insurance payment(if they pay it!), their licence stays clean although they're a menace on the road.
Also, the BiB are very reluctant to pull people for tail-gating, as they have no co-oberating proof by the way of CCTV or photo's.

So you think maybe he didn't do this when he was.....
Cardigan said he had had a problem with the police, and went on to describe an incident with a person who was not a police officer.
I know we get a bashing on here sometimes, fair enough, but if serving officers are going to be criticised for the actions of retired officers, I, for one think that is a bit much.

Here here, especially since we don't know if the retired officer actually retired "naturally", or was he "retired" conveniently, after a quiet word in his ear. If the latter then it would point to the fact that his fellow BiB knew he was a bit of a loose cannon. In either case the guy was being a p1llock, but he was a MOP being a p1llock, not a BiB being a p1llock.

Or, indeed, if he was ever a police officer...

Surely if the SCP visited your workplace it should be them being critisized and not the Police? I'm pretty sure they're two separate entities?
What part of the word "partnership" is causing you trouble?.....

LOL
You're right, it is called a partnership - but IIRC the Police do NOT run the SCP, they self manage - and also, was it a bone fide Copper who visited the OP's place of work or just some obnoxious prat in a shiney suit from the SCP?

The SCP is a partnership which includes the police, it takes resources directly from the police, it corresponds with the public on behalf of the police and performs activities which are effectively "outsourced" from the police. The distiction between the SCP and the police is pure spin and has no more physical transperancy than the difference between traffic and the dog crews or CID and BiB. It is classic Tony spin to ensure the classic finger of blame is not allowed to stop on any one body. It will be interesting to see if the new honest "you can trust me" Gordan cuts through the c**p can calls a spade a spade. You're right, it is called a partnership - but IIRC the Police do NOT run the SCP, they self manage - and also, was it a bone fide Copper who visited the OP's place of work or just some obnoxious prat in a shiney suit from the SCP?
