I have an aging Fuji FinePix E510 which, although it's 5.2MP, doesn't produce great images. It struggles with graininess (even at super-low ISO settings) and has a severe fringing problem.
I'm in the market for a new camera costing up to or around £200, and am very happy to go second-hand on this. I've had a brief look around and seen things like the Canon PowerShot S3, and an older Nikon D0-series (I can't recall the model number, but second-hand it goes for £200ish).
Can any PH shutterbugs cast the light of personal experience on this? Is the S3 as good as it seems? (it certainly reviews very well, but then so does the E510, and the pictures are a bit cack out of that)
Cheers ears m'dears.

Ricoh Caplio get's a thumbs up from me. Probably slightly more expensive than you're willing to pay but well worth it. Glass lens elements too. Photos taken on a cold and overcast February morning.
A good choice I've had mine for about a year now and I love it, traveled with me everywhere and I've always been pleased with the output. I originally got it as a stop gap/trainer camera with the aim of a DSLR this year, but I've put that off now as there is a good few years left in this one yet and I like using it too much.

My god what a great camera,
It might be only 2 MP.
The thing is, it's what the built in software does with the image.
This out performs many 5MP cameras, just because of the internal image handeling.
Sure a 5MP will gather more information, but it's what it does with it.
