Radar Detection
Discussion
Hi ya guys and gals.Just a quick one.I have recently picked up ANOTHER 3 points on my passport to joy ie licence and have now got totally *issed off.So I have at last INVESTED in a radar detection unit "SNOOPER S5-R".This little baby is good news if you want to beat the baskets at their own game.In the short while that has been in my Griff it has paid for itself.I do not pride myself in driving fast without due care and attention. In fact ALL my points have been aquired going 15mph over the governments TAX threshold sorry I mean speed limit. What do you think about aquiring such a equipment??

JustTrouble/DennistheMennace, did you buy the SNOOPER on spec, or do some research into the various options out there? I have been thinking about getting one of these for a while, but there seems to be so many in the market and it's tough to know what's good and what's a gimmick.
Also, are they easy to mount, and where do you draw power from?
Cheers

Hello gixxer1000.To answer your question the Snooper range has been around for a few years and I believe a reliable unit. The prices vary according to the spec/performance of the unit they can cost as little as £70 up to £300+.As you know there are several makers of such devices but it just depends how much you want to spend. As for the mounting/installation it is really easy.My unit came with two power leads(one flexible, one long your choice which one to use) which plugs into the cigarette lighter. The unit can be windscreen mounted or dash board mounted. In my Griff it sits on the dash and plugs neatly into the door cigarette lighter.
ps you can also swap it from car to car.

Your going to think this is silly but here is a warning!
Mine actualy got me done for speeding! how you ask? well..
On my way to work there is a camera its obviously always there but because of my radar detector I Knew it was always in-active....to be presise in over a year of going past it there has never been any film in it my detector never went off!
So one day going home from work at 11pm at night quite happily listening to music not worrying about the camera cos I know its never been active....dectector goes off I look at detector look up at camera of fcuk slowed down enough to just get the 3 points but only just
If I had not have had not hjave had the detector I would have slowed down just in case.
ps its never been active since then
pps no trafic no houses just stright road

Note...
All radar/laser detectors suffer from not dealing with any Time/Distance related kit such as SPECS cameras and some do not detect Forward Firing systems such as Truvelo too well. SPECS isn't detectable because there are no emissions from it to detect - purely first camera takes piccie of number plate, ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) does the translation, then second camera takes second piccie, ANPR translates, matches up with first piccie, compares time of first piccie with that of second piccie; using the known distance between camera 1 and camera 2, average speed can be calculated....
My advice, if you've got the cash buy yourself a GPS based detector, with a Laser detection module or buy both a GPS and a good Radar/Laser detector such as the Beltronics 550 or the Snooper (cheaper)...
The GPS based detectors are less likely to be outlawed should the current legal loop hole allowing use of detectors be closed.

AdamS said: Has anyone here had a Laser Jammer fitted to their Tuscan? How easy was it to do?
Be careful here, these are covered by the current legal loophole. If you get caught using any type of jammer that acts on the emission to alter that emission then you will be prosecuted. Merely having one fitted may be sufficient for a successful prosecution under the Wireless and Telegraphy Act - Interfering with Police Transmissions.
