The old puddle thread again....
Discussion
Out for about 2 hours in the rain last night, and the passenger footwell is once again a puddle..
I'd already taken off the doorpanel and checked the inner skin last time this happened to try to ensure that the water is directed away from said doorpanel and thus not into the car. Thought I'd sorted this and asked RG to check a the last service (don't know if they did...sigh..)..
But, I felt all around the door frame and none of the carpet there actually seems wet, as if the water isn't coming over the sill but somehow up through the floor? Does this sound possible? Or is the wick effect of the carpet making the entry point sort of dry out and just leave the puddle where graivity does it's work?
I seem to remember the last time this subject was raised that there was talk about the doorseal 'depressions' (depressed is how I'm feeling at the moment!) maybe being in the wrong place. I have one at the back dn of the door on the horizontal just above the sill, and the other is towards the front of the door just as the frame starts to curve upwards. This seems to aligne with where the water is collecting in the well. Could the forward motion of the car be throwing water under the door, along the sill and over via this depression? Do I remember that one fix is to slit the seal and insert some rubber tubing to remove the depression? Wish a bit of rubber tubing could remove mine, but I think it would also need some illegal substances and a spoon. And only be a short term expensive fix.....
Does this make sense? If so, all contributions gratefully received....
PS Wouldn't it be good if some kind hearted knowledgable TVR owners could run little workshops once a month/quarter where some of these fixes could be demonstrated to the hard of thinking and DIY incompetant such as me!

when i had a leak, it was the corner of the windscreen rubber out of place and allowed water to run down the inside of the door along the rubber seal - only soaking the carpet.
just a case of having someone run the garden hose over the door/window/windscreen while you lie upside down with the carpets out till you see where its coming in.

Right, that's number 1 on the list of things to try. Cheers.
I was under the impression that the depressions were needed to direct water running along the seal away and out instead of flowing over and in.
Your leak could be from above - something not sealed in the engine bay allowing water to trickle in, or the seal itself not tightly sealed against the door aperture (i.e. not stuck in place properly).

The seal seems tight enough. And as far as I can see, the depression would only work like that if water were coming into the car somehow down the door - so it would exit the car via the depression rather than pooling.
It's the coming in from the engine bay or whatever that I'm thinking. BUT.... I know nothing and usually guess completely incorrectly!

The water comes of the windscreen and roof, runs down the rubber side seal, and because of the way the seal is fitted, when it gets to the lower front corner of the door aperture, the water goes under the seal and into the footwell rather than to the outside.
I found the sure was to run a bead of silicone sealant underneath the outer edge o the door/screen rubber, right from the top corner of the screen, to the lowest point of the seal as it returns around the door aperture. That fixed it in both my Tamoras.

Mine, and several others (all?!) have an inacessible panel joint above the footwell/below the heater box underbonnet. Attempts to seal leak failed as so difficult to access.
When parked facing uphill, rainwater seeps through, and unles you've remounted them upside down
straight down the cables into both ECU's.
That's why I never saw any evidence of leaks, but door & alarm ECU played up
