the urge to "upgrade" my tiv is getting the better of me, i realise the factory warranty issues there are at the mo and keep seeing mention of getting a decent 3rd party warranty....

can anyone give some more info? companies what they cover costs etc..
does it vary car 2 car? age etc?

I really want a Sag, but not sure if i can afford it at the mo, realisticaly i'll probably be looking at a 2003/2004 T350 or Tam

Check out this months Sprint as there is a company advertising about warranties. I don't know anything about them, just noticed the ad. Failing that, you can get the TVR warranty from dealers, which is run by a third party and can include wear and tear cover, but needs a dealer inspection (plus any necessary rectification first!).

Do a search on this forum and you'll find it. £1347 last year, plus 2 hours labour for a full inspection. Then any costs to rectify anything the inspection throws up before the warranty can be taken out. There is a no wear and tear option for a few hundred less (forget). I've had around £2k worth of work done in the past 11.5 months and I will definitely be renewing my warranty next month.

Its actually better than a factory warranty (if one existed) as I had a full clutch, rear suspension bushes, oil seals and other bits.

Who exactly has said no - Autoprotect on a full 1yr £1,347 wear and tear warranty? If this is so, then it is indeed concerning as many on here bought the warranty with this specifically in mind.

yep. had my car for 4 months and had it serviced twice in that time as im really fussy with oil and and set up and that, so when i felt a power loss and missfire i took it to dulfords who did what ever they did and told me yes there is leakage from the back three, past valves and exhast so as i spent all this dosh on autoprotects ware and tare warrenty i was there thinking ill just claim and get it sorted. so when they spoke to autoprotect they said it had to go back to a main dealer ie henley hertige, so they collected my car and have been told to take out the engine and sent there man over to look. they have now said that its not covered and they will not pay for anything inc collecting costs and taking the engine out. so ive been without my car for 6 weeks and im pissed off as i have a 6-£700 bill to pay and when i phoned autoprotected to ask what the f@*ks going on they told me that my car had been run dry of oil even though i had ai fully serviced 150miles before powerloss and back fire. so be warned when these dealers so it covers everything cos it doesnt.... what a pain in the arse. cos now i have a 8k rebuild to pay for after bying the car for 27k 4 months before and spent 3.5k having it sorted out.

Get the last servicing garage to state in writing that they filled the oil to the correct level. If they actually did this, then only some kind of subsequent component failure, (gasket, oil sensor, oil pump etc) will have caused the oil starvation, thus the engine failure is a secondary problem and therefore should be covered under warranty. You may need to get the engine checked again for the primary failure.

Just out of interest, did you ever check the oil level after the last service?
