Being a d1ck, I have managed to deeply scrape the plastic surround of the wingmirror on the passenger side on my garage wall.

Are they expensive to replace? Is it a DIY job? I have had a look and can't see any obvious way of removal. DO they come coloured?

Cheers

Hi mate... nope as far as I know they don't come coloured.. Think they were pretty expensive. I have a drivers side one, painted silver..

They are held on by three bolts/screws. 2 are behind the side window demist vent (which just pulls off) and the 3rd can only be accessed by removing the door card. It's not a big job. I've done it twice each side.

You may want to make enquiries of some bike repair places that specialise in fairings and the like - tis amazing what can be done with damaged plastic these days. Would put a name forward but don't have any bike mags with me at the moment - could be cheaper than replacement?

As mentioned off with the door trim
- two screws at the back of the door
- three or four along the bottom of the door
- one or two at the front of the door
- little lug in the door handle needs to be removed to expose another screw, undo that and pull the door handle out
- undo screw behind door handle, normally holding a peice of white plastic
- now the tricky one, the door knob, you need to pry out the red plastic part, it clips in.
- once this is done (it normally results in the part becoming asthetically rubbish, it still works, just good idea to get a new one at the same time as a mirror. Likewise the little lug on the door handle)- pull up on the door knob and it will come out.
- There is another screw behind where the door knob was, holding the door knob holder in, remove that too
- Make sure the window is down, then push the door trim up from the bottom, it hooks on at the top.
- Be careful as there is a plug to be disconnected, the wing mirror positioner.
- now to get at the wing mirror, Also as mentioned pull the triangular black plastic sail shaped piece away from the back of the wing mirror, inside the door. Behind there are a few bolts and screws. ( you may have to peel back the black sticky backed foam to reveal all the screws. There are 3 of them (phillips head). Leave the bolts alone, they are the window channels.
- Undo the bottom 2 screws and then the last one at the top. Maybe get somebody to hold the mirror whilst you undo it, so it doesn't hit your door!
- The wing mirror will still be held on by the electric mirror plug, just unclip it and voila!

- reverse to put it back on!!!

er Yes I have just done the same on my old VTII, It has the same shaped wing mirror, just not sure it is the same size, as the Monaro has a more angled turret. In fact just reading up on it, it would appear the triangular part of the mirror has a different rake to it.

One bit of advice, Buy a genuine replacement, a standard Holden Monaro mirror will do, HSV/VXR is the same thing. Do NOT buy a copy, whilst asthetically they look identical and nearly perform their intended function, they have one flaw! At speed, the actual mirror vibrates and gives you a headache if you look at it!!!!!! ( gave me one anyway!!)

Buy a new replacement mirror, look under your bonnet at the build plate and give the paint colour and mirror to a panel beater to get painted. They shouldn't need to match it exactly with polish and stuff as it doesn't really join up to any other panels.

Sorry Forgot to comment before i hit the button.....
Just an observation but RAC Autowindscreen's "junior" technician managed to get my door card off in a matter of minutes without damaging said items. Maybe not all necesaary to remove to get to the wingmirror housing??
