Have rented an apartment near St. Tropez over the GP weekend and was wondering where is a good place to park my 911 on race day? Is it crazy to even consider taking the car into Monaco? Better to park in Nice and take (ahem!) public transport?

Crazy is one was to describe it!

There is a good train service along the coast which is perfectly good enough and then there are the relatively cheap helicopter flights from Nice.

P.S. I went a long time ago by bus from Aberdeen so it sounds like your trip will be slighty more glamourous!

I'd recommend the train with lots of extra services over the weekend.

I've parked near the football stadium before, walked through the tunnel under the Grimaldi Palace and you come out rear the Rascasse!

Train or helicopter.

Helicopter is about £500 each way from St Tropez, but they are mainly five seaters so reasonable value if there are a few of you.

Cheers guys, I like the helicopter idea. I guess you got to do it style when in Monaco

The other thing to mention is that it's tradition to drive the circuit after the race... great fun!

Surely there are masses of cars trying to do this?? I can imagine a huge traffic jam.

Depends on your timings...usually on race day it's arrive early & leave late...but it's better than trying to get out of Silverstone. I have a base in Frejus and quite like Geneve's remarks on the helicopter journey...may give this a try in future!!! yes

I used to live down there and from experience the simplest thing will be to drive along the coast to a place called Beaulieu (in between Nice and Monaco), park the car in one of the many quiet residential streets near the train station and hop on the train - takes about 25 mins.

Your car will be safe in Beaulieu too.

You could try and book a table in the bar at the hotel de paris and tell them your bringing your car. They will then valet park it for you in their underground car park. However, I think you may have left it a bit late as the tables get booked pretty far in advance. If you're really stuck send me an email. (A friend of mine lives on Albert 1er and he has a couple of parking spaces with his apartment - I'm sure he'd do a deal for a fellow Porsche enthusiast)

I've done both helicopter from nice and train...and drove actually. Helicopter is clearly the best, but expensive and tricky to organise for race day. Train from Nice is fine, but crammed, or as suggeseted drive nearer then jump on. I recommend getting on early as you can on the day to make sure you squeeze in. Driving is a nightmare, don't even consider it on the day of the race, though any other time is great. their is one other option....go in by boat, back it into teh marina, pay several 10,000's quid for a mooring...and get on telly!

Helicopter from Nice to Monaco is less than 10 minutes and about £90 each way, but probably not on race day, and that's if you can get a booking. Not a chance of getting a mooring unless you are Bernie Eccelstone, train easy but packed. The road from St Trop to Nice is rubbish at the best of times. Try and hitch a lift via boat to further round the coast to Villefranche and I think you can pick up the train there.

I'm getting the train from Frejus/St Rapahel - £18 each way. You can buy tickets at the SNCF shop in Picadilly. Or, alternatively, you can park your convertible Bentley right in the middle of the road beside Casino Square, as I saw last week. As I watched, a uniformed flunkey came over to the car, started it, then disappeared again before Philip Green emerged from the restaurant and drove away.

Well I'll be parking my bum in front of my TV set.

Best view of all the action, although I'll probably nod off after Lap 3 when it develops into a snaking procession with nowhere to overtake.
