Hello all.

Having had a bit of banter with some of you on this website re my TVR V8 engined 240z I thought I might dabble in TVR land.

Thinking of looking at a rather nice Avus blue 1997 500 that I have seen. Only 1 owner and under 30k miles.

Could someone send me the fabled buyers guide? Any tips apart from the obvious.

Also:

Is a 1998 onward car better (as in Cerbie's)?

Is a 450 a better bet than a 500?

Thanks a lot

Thanks, had a look at that and printed it out. Have seen reference to "The Buyers Guide" which I think is something different from this.

As above and "chassis, chassis, chassis"
check the top front wishbone mounting lugs the ones under the manifolds especially, and the outriggers directly behind the front wheels and all along there length, maybe a good idea to take someone with you who knows the weak points on these carsthumbupgood luck.

You probably mean the Chimeara and Grifftith 'Bible'.

Can be bought here on the TVRCC website.

A 10 yr old hand-built high performance car needs to come with a bill of receipts as long as your arm IMHO. If it doesn't walk away - full service history is not enough on its own - been there done it !.

agree with that, stamps in the book are not enough the service reciepts are what u want my lasat service (24k) came to £1100!!! all of the extra work was optional, so in theory you could by a car that just had a 24k and still needs over £500 spending on it! oh and its not a one off.. my 18k service came to about £900 IIRC LOL ouch... not that i'm trying to put u off oh and my car might be forsale soon if your interested... however i'm not giving it away!
