Having silencer replaced

Going to have the centre section replaced tomorrow with either a smaller one or just a straight through pipe. How much does the exhaust affect the performance of the engine if at all? It's going in for a tune up next week so any variations can hopefully be adjusted out. Is it a case of less restriction = more power? Won't be much I know but how is it affected? Thanks

I don't think the box restricts the power much - some have said the that Rv8 needs some back pressure to work well.

As it's the only silencer - it's going to be stupidly noisey without any silencer ..

But it's not easy or cheap and takes some time - I think a better way to go is the Cherry bomp route .. and as they are so slim you would gain ground clearance. They also have about the best flow possible as the are just a 'straight thru' tube design ..

He now has straight through on his 390. Personally, I think its a little loud, but at the end of the day, its all down to personal taste and how deaf you are.

RV8s need a bit (low, but more than zero!) back pressure. Taking everything out of the exhaust is not good. Just the centre box, even a sports version will have/do that. Or you need to install the approriate cam to go without any back pressure.....

I still have two silencers: centre box, and one under the rear bumper - standard continental spec. And you can still here (before you can see it), that a wedge is on its way.
Will replace with standard stainless system that only has a centre box (standard UK spec), when I find the time (as I have the exhaust&manifolds) but other things need looking at or I need to drive it, stops me from doing it. Expect a few db more from it, +3db will be enough as that would double the noise!

Wyn , best option is to put some flanges on a ' small silencer' and also get some flanges put on a piece of stainless pipe as well , then you can put either in . The sound is very ,very loud till you get used to it then its feckin loud and amazing ! Never put my ' small silencer' back on yet !!

The reaction I get from driving with a straight tube is definitely worth it !
