Cerb was always my first choice! 4 seats + 2 kidsthumbup
chim 500 very close second due to much lower running costs and i think sound better? IMO.

Yes I have had 3 year old nephew and 7 year old niece in the back, no problems and they are comfortable

Indeed, my rear seats see a lot of use. 5 year old and 3 year old, sure enough I wouldn't fit in the back but depends what the intended usage is; my children (whilst they might occasionally act in such a way as to contradict the fact) are human.

Oh and to answer the original Q, mileage wouldn't scare me as such as it appears (from the ad) that it has been well cared for - prefer to see a car that has been able to rack up a reasonable mileage than one that has only 20k in 10 years, however I appreciate the dilemma and head always seems to want to scream "low mileage is better".

For another grand you get a 98/99 4.5 so arguably expensive car but it the condition and provenance are good then thats great. Is the rest of the chassis good?

Besides we are all too scared to say if we think it is overpriced since Jensena told us off for it last week

I'd be too tempted to stretch a bit further and look at this too:
www.pistonheads.com/sales/154169.htm
I think its Budaholics old Cerb? A 4.5 too...

As with all Cerbs this age, check the chassis as much as you possibly can, ideally getting it up onto a ramp. See Tyresmokes MOT thread - scary eh? Definately worth looking at.

Anyone else think this: www.pistonheads.com/sales/168070.htm is going a bit cheap?

These are my thoughts too! the general feeling from reading threads on here is a rebuild approx every 50k. with that im thinking one will be due soon? how soon? who knows?

! wouldn't agree that "a rebuild every 50k" miles is normal. I would suggest that the AJP V8 is probably the strongest and most robust part of a Cerbera, so 50k miles wouldnt really put me off. Someone who has done that mileage would also have had to put right any of the 'niggly' problems that beset Cerberas, so the chances are it is a sorted car - go for it!

Engines tire as they get older. A 50K engine will probably use more oil and produce less power than a refreshed engine. If a high power engine like a cerbs gets to 50 or 60K then I think that is a good thing. Not many will make it 60 - 100K without some engine work. IMHO

Sorry - but it is just my opinion based on longish term ownership and sniffing round these parts and round the indies in the south.
The same applies to the rover V8 engines. The 500s tend to reach similiar miles as the AJPs.
To be honest I really dont think this is bad and a basic engine rebuild can be done for a reasonable sum.
