Test Drive Unlimited for PC, any good?

Juat seen the above title previewed in a program on SKY, and it 'looks' pretty cool and fun.
My question is, is it? And...if so, what PC gamepad would work best with it (Not steering wheel), would an XBox pad be OK?

(Never bought a racing game for PC in my life, only GT for PS2!)

Quick summary of the thread:

If it works, it's quite good.
If it doesn't work (and their is a reasonably good possibility of you hitting one of the multitude of bugs) then it's utter crap.

I would hold of buying it until the official patch is out... potentially wait for two or more patches to appear as currently it's kind of a beta.

Ahh, that thread - couldn't see for looking! I think I'll wait then, as driving games, a lot of them, bore me to death.... this one looked a bit of fun!
