I am planning to paint my chassis with either hammerite of POR15, but it was clear waxoyled last year. Do i need to remove the waxoyl first, and if so with what? Or am i better, just re waxoyling? Some of the paint has chipped off the chassis. I play to waxoyl again, after the paint has fully cured

Advice would be appreciated
Thanks

You've got to remove ALL of the waxoyl before you POR/Rust bullet it. Otherwise it will just come off.

If you don't have time/can't do a proper POR job, then it's probably best to Waxoyl it.

Brake cleaner or white spirit wil remove the waxoyl - but you have to remove every last trace, then the dirt and rust. Horrble, dirty job. But it's the only way to do it properly. Annually waxoyling over the rust and dirt is just prolonging the agony, and makes doing the proper job even harder.

Agree completely Ben, but IIRC a good steam clean should remove most of the waxoyl? (a little less painfully - except in the pocket)

Best bet to remove Waxoyl is to spray white spirit on it and wipe it off after a few mins and put a load cat litter under the car to catch the run off. Much better than any engine cleaner. I quite like the black waxoyl (not quite so common) for a better finish on black chassis, and the waxoyl based underseal you can get seems to not mind going on top of waxoyl. Its seems to be a simular product, only much thicker and glossier.
