TVR Tasmin (V6) 'Barn find' whats it worth?
Discussion
Be gentle with me im new here!
I need some advice please....
I have found a TVR Tasmin ('82 on a Y) drop head, that has been off the road for 11 years.
It is in a truly HORRIBLE state - the hood has rotted away, the seats are rotten, the inside is full of Ivy and other plants etc. and the outside is COVERED in vegitation detritus - it looks extremely unloved. I cant see the underside as all the tyres are flat and its too manky to get under, although i noticed that the silencers have crumbled to dust. So i figure its a BRAVE restoration or car for parts.
The question for all you knowledgable peeps is what is this worth? I have spoken to the owner who wants to sell, but has no idea how much he wants, i wanna buy but dont want to overpay for what could be ultimately scrap......would appreciate any help.
No photos im afraid as it looks like a bush!!!

Cases like these are often best solved outside the limits of cash.
Try and get off the fella what he really wants to do, if he fancies a nice break for him and his Mrs in Paris sort all that and shove them in his hand.
A chap I know did this with a Healy 3000, got a mint original for the price of a First Class ticket to Australia...
Matt.

I'm no expert, but from what you describe there doesn't sound as if there is much car left. The chassis will almost certainly be rusted, the engine will in all likelihood be seized solid, and after that, what have you got left? Some tatty body panels that will need a respray anyway.
As has already said, I think you'd be doing him a favour taking it away so why not offer a case of beer for it, or something equally token.

i agree with this approach. He wants to get shot of it and with the money needed to get the work done to a decent standard it is likely to outweigh the price of a similar vehicle in a running condition. Once that is explained to him you should be able to offer him a token to sign it over to you... A case of beer sounds a bit generous. There is an up and running one in Loot for £2000 or nearest offer, less than the cost of a roof and a quick paintjob. Every piece of rubber will be perished, engine seized, brakes will need completely replacing. Chassis will be suspect if it is that damp in the barn and the list of expenditure has only just started with the above, Wiring, trim seats, suspension, cooling system etc... and it will not have been abandoned 11 years ago if it did not have a major problem so that too has to be fixed.Better lest alone. Cheap is never cheap in the long run.

Yes. The later S models got the 2.9 (same engine anyway).

well i paid 2k for my almost running 85 drop head ( since converted to a racer)
from experience you probably looking at 10-15k to rebuild a tasmin from the ground up and that doesnt include seats and trim....
a good road goin tasmin is worth what about 5k so a1 maybe 7k...
If it was me id offer about 500 quid at thats mainly for the shell.
