Got into my car this morning to find a nice puddle of water in the passenger footwell (luckily the water had only gathered into the rubber mat & not wet the carpet). Now i hadn't driven the car since Saturday morning & it rained really heavy yesterday afternoon & during the night.

Looking at the water marks on the rubber mat the water seems to be dripping from under the dash? Near the foot vent?

Any ideas, maybe the front screen?

Cheers,

Mike

If your Focus has Air-Con check that the drain hose has become blocked or displaced from the back of the HeVAC (heater) unit. Should be approx 12mm diameter rubbber hose that should pass out through the bulkhead. If they get blocked, sometimes the water accumulates in the bottom of the heater casing and finds its way out onto the carpets.

Hopefully it isn't a screen/body leak. Good luck.

Yes my car has air-con & i use it most days. How do i find this rubber hose? Is it easier from inside the car, under the dash? Sorry i'm a total novice when it comes to car repairs!

If you can access it from inside the car it will be under the dash.

It's a common Focus problem..............

The pollen filter hasn't been installed/sealed properly!!!

The panel at the base of the windscreen is sealed down using a piece of sticky rubber-type tape, there was a revised version of this seal to cure what was becoming a common complaint.

If you've had your car serviced recently you could go back to them and give them a slap and tell them to fix it, alternative for about £10 you can buy one from Ford and change it yourself!

Yes i had my car serviced within the last month! I have just been outside in the rain to have a look & there does seem to be a gap between the windscreen & the panel (at the passenger side?). I will investigate further once it stops raining! Thanks

yes

Chances are that the clip retainers have been broken when they removed the scuttle / splash-guard. Too much force is applied to the wrong kind of movement - this is so that they avoid breaking the screen.

The scuttle panel needs to come off; clips (M and F) assembled to scuttle; old butyl tape removed; contact surfaces cleaned; new 'tremshield' applied before scuttle assy goes back on.

That's if it is where the water is getting in from...

You should be able to identify / elliminate the problem by looking if there is a gap between the scuttle panel and the windscreen. It should be flush with no gaps / lumps...

Paul.

Right i've had a good this morning & the clips that hold the scuttle panel to the bulkhead area (?) are all broken! So the scuttle panel won't sit correctly causing the gap between the screen & panel.

The garage have fixed the scuttle panel to the bulkhead with cables ties! They have also cracked the panel just where it locates into the offside panel! furious

Mikey, the objective really is to get the scuttle to sit flush against the screen. Although not desirable, the clips lower down towards the bulkhead are not so much of a problem, besides, you don't see them anyway.

If there is damage to the clips you have mentioned, then it is also likely that the push-pop clips underneath are probably broken too. The whole lot needs to be removed and refitted (or replaced).

Thanks for your advice Paul, i think i will book it in at the garage for early next week & let them sort it (replace it!).
