Anybody been or going to the Monaco grand prix?

If so any general tips about going to watch it? In particular where is the best place to watch it from without buying a silly price ticket.

Is it possible to watch it without a ticket?

Any tips woyuld be greatly appreciated.

They make it harder every year to view the race without a ticket, a very expensive hotel room, a very expensive meal or a big boat.

The standing tickets up by the Palace are normally cheapish, but you cant see that much and its heaving.

Not very helpful but true.

Fancy a beer? I am there all weekend!

Smirnoff.

Yes I would be up for some beer and highlights of the region!

I heard the best view is from some hill top according to the official F1 guide printed by ITV??

Maybe I should just fork out for a tikcte givne the trip is expensive anyway.

Where do I get a cheap ticket - can I buy on the day in Monaco. Sorry for all the questions but its my first time.

No, you can't watch it without a ticket.

Your cheapest option is to buy a ticket to sit on the hill - don't know what the view is like, there are no seats so you have to get there early early early, and if you have to nip off to the loo or get some food, don't expect to find your spot on your return. That'll cost you €70, and I'd buy the ticket in advance - they're always sold out on race day.

www.formula1monaco.com/ is the offical AMC website, lets you buy tickets and you can see what the view is like from each spot.

The best view is not from the hill, it's from one of the grandstands that are about 4' from the track. That's why the tickets are 8x more expensive.

I'm going for the first time this year and have got a granstand ticket. I spoke to a mate who was on the "hill" (Secteur Rocher I think it's called) a few years ago and you have to get there VERY early to see anything. I decided there was no point going all the way down and then only get half the view.

If there is a PH beer contingent, please let me know. We're flying there and back on the day, but should have time to get a beer or two in after the race.
