Hi guy's,lookin at getting rid of my CSL for a 996tt,only problem is that im a bit on the large side!Im 6.4 and i have been for a seat in quite a few and the bastard steering wheel only pulls out and doesni go up or down which leaves my left leg slightly too close to the steering wheel. While i COULD live with it so as i could get my dream car it would piss me off eventually!Has anyone any knowledge if the steering wheel DOES go up or down and if it doesnt has anyone tried to fix the problem(aside from cutting my leg's off!)

Many thanks

It doesn't go up and down. Other than putting up with it the only solution is a smaller diameter steering wheel.

or possibly lowering the seat, or even changing them altogether.

It might still be possible to get it lower still with some work to the mounts.

Looking at the options have you been able to try a GT3 with Buckets to see if they might help if you hade them reto fitted to the tt?

Following my earlier post I'll just add that I've put up with exactly the same problem for over five years now. When rpeviosuly suggested, I did consider a smaller diameter techart steering wheel but decided against on the basis it would cut down visibility of the rev counter etc.

I too would suggest getting a look at having a bucket seat installed. I bet it would fit well.

another thought - have you tried a car with the optional sports seats with manual adjustment or the standard seats with the full electric memory?

the latter have far more movement and actually drop lower on the runners that the sports seats so this may be all that you need to get a good position

Most of the cars i have tried have been the lever to slide back and the lever to drop it down?

Possible solution may be to get a longer steering hub/steering hub extension?

from 2002 onwards the turbo was fitted with full electric memory seats. these are easy to spot as they have a set of buttons on the drivers door sill for storing settings

the seats move back and forth, as well as up and down on both the front and back sections of the seat. as i said with this facility the seat base lowers further than standard which frees up more leg room under the steering wheel

cars fitted with the optional sports seats (you know the ones with the little shoulder supports) do away with the full electric adjustment and you have to put up with the arrangement you have mentioned.
