Does anybody know of a way to transport bikes on a Boxster!? Have been thinking about it and is there any reason why a Halfords job wouldn't work, presumably you can hook it in to the boot the same way as any other car? Although the bikes would be lying flatter than usual...

I know there are some US options which look ridiculous but wondered if anybody had any bright ideas?

I'm sure Porsche do one, but it can be used roof up only.

i cant see why one of those halfords things wouldnt work, so long as you fit it properly you should be able to avoid the majority of the scratches.

Thats the thing with these bike carriers. I worry those metal clips are going to take chips out the boot etc. In fact I recon it is inevitable. Perhaps some armorfend squares where they make contact would help.

Trying to find one for my BMW 3 series...

Thorny, don't buy from halfords. Check out www.wiggle.co.uk for better prices and a good selection of whats available.

Dont buy an aftermarket job.... i balanced a saris bones rack on the back of my S2000 (seemesd like a good idea at the time). Everytime i used it i scratched or knocked something. Did manage to get two bikes loaded onto the back at one stage.... why we were never pulled over whilst driving down the m25 (on the way to box hill) is beyond me....

Bikes/racks/nice shiny cars dont mix well

It's only an idea, but it worked for me. I have a boot rack off my old Triumph Spitfire that I have used on the back of the wife's Z3. Take both wheels off the bike, turn the pedals inside out, lie the frame down with the wheels on top and bungy the whole lot.

Not sure which US options you looked at, but I have seen some that aren't completely outrageous ...

The official branded Porsche bike rack is made by Montblanc. I have the same for my 911.

I think it does, with the roof up only. Porsche or Thule or Montblanc will know if roof bars are available; if they are, then the Barracuda will fit the bars fine.

According to OPC, there are no obvious mounting points for the rack on the 987, only the 986. I actually already have the same bike carriers as you which fit to the roof rails... Problem is what do i fit the roof rails to...
