Tuscan Speedo dead when wet

I've posted this on the general TVR but does anyone have the same problem I have with Tuscan Speedo.

Each time the car gets really wet and I meen wet , London Thunder and Mablethorp the speedo dies on the Tuscan digtial and readout, evrything else on the pod seems to work fine, just the speedo, when it dires out a few days later all seems well.

Its nothing but a bit of a pain anyone any suggestions as to how I might stop this or has the same problem..

Sound like you are getting water in the speedo sensor, the sensor is on a small cradle that is just millimeters away from a gog looking thing on your rear near side drive shaft near the diff,this is open to the elements and will get a soaking driving through puddles, try spraying it with WD 40 or some other water repellent

Does the display just go down to "zero" or do you actually lose the LCD characters within the display unit? I would imagine that if it is just returning to zero then the speed sensor is being affected by water ingress. If the LCD characters disappear on the display unit then you might need to have the circuitry looked at - could be possible that when it gets really wet, the humidity increases so much that a problem with the PCBA/wiring is revealed.

Just my tuppence worth mate, hopefully someone else might have a solution for you,

Last night i had the same problem - speedo needle went down to 0 and when i came home i smelled some oil. Checked it and saw oil on the N/S exhaust pipe - smelled like diff oil. Can the oil get out, if the speedo is defect????

If you get dirt or XS water on your speedo sensor you should first get a fault code come up, then no speedo reading at all. This is easily cured with a quick clean as suggested above.

If your speedo is reading 0, then it may be a different problem

Just re-read your post. Sounds to me like the seals on your diff are leaking oil, which in turn is covering the speedo sensor with oil and giving you false readings.

Will it be a big hassle to change the seal???

I'm not an expert, so don't quote me, but yes.

Firstly though, I would clean off all the oil around the diff and speedo sensor, then see if that cured your speedo problem and more importantly, see how much oil is coming out of the diff.
It may only be a very small amount of oil thats being spun off the driveshaft/ speedo sensor cog.
Would be worth checking the diff oil level if you can get to it.

Just looked under the car and checked the speedo sensor. Sensor is ok, but the half shaft went like 1cm out of the differential....doesnt look so good. The shaft has now also some play. does anybody know if the shaft is somehow locked from the inside with a snap ring or similar??

....just if anybody is curious. i pushed the half shaft back in the differntial and everything is working fine...
