Warranty on a cerbera?
Discussion
Hi people
Still undecided at the mo on a cerbera or Jag XKR, will have about 17-20k to spend and had decided on the XKR due to the running costs.... but after looking into it a bit more i can get a nice cerbera 4.2 for about 13£ leaving me (in theory) about 6K to run her, which would (again in theory) give me enough for 2 years of repair costs! providing i don't dip into it for modifications!
I was just wondering if there is any sort of warranty seeing as TVR are now, for the moment, shut. And if any such warranty is worth the paper it is written on?
Would love a cerbera over the XKR, but some peoples profiles on "running costs" are somewhat scary, i know they are supercars, and the XKR is a GT.
Anyway, without getting to far off track...
If someone can help with this and shed some light it would be much appreciated!
Cheers
Brett

Cerb or XKR Hmmm
an argument in the Cook household that keeps popping up every now and then.
Realy there is no contest for Power, performance, looks, sound, grin factor etc etc, it's men against boys...the Cerb wins by a country mile...and then some
If you are post menapausal, hen pecked, still concerned about you image when turning up at the Golf Club etc and not prepared to see how poor a driver you realy are, then the XKR is for you.
Running costs are NOT so scarry £3-4K p/a is crap...yes mods will cost you ££££ but the standard car is still rather impressive.
Where do you live? check out your nearest Indies...give 'em a bell, tell them your thinking about Cerbism and have a chat for a few minutes...they'll be glad to help put yer mind at rest re the excessive running costs.
Good luck

What shade of lenses do you have in your glasses? If you buy a cerb and have it mantianed by a reasonable priced indie then it will cost £3K pa on average (servicing, tyres and repairs). Joolz, APM etc all tend to back this up. Do the work yourself and you can halve this. You might spend a lot less if you are lucky but they are always ready to bite you in the bum. The cars are getting pretty old now and so we are getting into an era of new bills eg chassis, wiring, upholstery, carpet, fuel pipes etc... If you cant afford £3K pa then dont do it.

Yes - the AA. Parts and Labour warranty = £52 pa and you can claim £500 each time.
The other warranties arent worth it. IMHO (ie I didnt get an engine rebuild paid for a few yrs ago!).

Ace, just read through there terms and conditions and it looks quite good, although the car can't be older than 10 years old, so would have to get a 1999 or older cerb..
Have you claimed with them before?
ahh.. and does anyone know of any indi's in Scoootland?

My missus keeps trying to get me to buy the XKR, which I do like, but A couple of weeks of not answering normally means she gives in for a few months.
I did some research, and IIRC, you need to be wary of the pre 2000 engines, because of the liners & tensioners, I may be wrong.
That said, if I was having one, it would have to be the 400bhp 4.2, and I think that started in 2002, and they're not quite that cheap yet.
I went to have a look at A silver one, and just couldn't get my head around the metal bonnet & plastic bumper being different shades of colour.
Nice car though.

Another vote for the AA warranty. It's the same price regardless of the car (go figure) and they paid out for my clutch slave cylinder without a quibble. They do require proof of regular servicing, which I suppose is standard. £500 per claim with £25 excess. Every cerb owner should have one - hurry while stocks last (and before they exclude the cerb).
When I looked at private warranties they ran to thousands.
Obligatory cerb forum comment re cerb vs Jag: have you driven both, dare I ask? Seems like a case of driver appeal/savage performance/light weight/exclusivity/looks/sound/road presence vs, um..., comfy seats
. To the Jag's credit, your mum will love it. Your sister will say, "my friend has one of those". The sales guy at your work will talk to you at the coffee machine about the integrated bluetooth. Classical music will sound great in it. It will fill the garage.

I've actually started feeling sorry for them
My battery died a death last week and I didn't claim.
I'd rather get them with 5x £475, than waste a claim on a poultry £74
How long before Cerberas get banned from this, do you think ?
