I know the official service interval is 12,000 miles, but coming from a Lancer Evo where it was only 4,500 miles this seems a long time to be running around on old oil? Just wondered if any of you go for an intermediate oil/filter change?

Just want to keep the engine in tip-top condition is all. What sort of mileage should I expect from a 2002 996 TT engine - is 100K doable? What if I get it REVO'd?

Cheers,
Boon

If its a daily driver, probably best to get a good Independent to change it at 6k, keeps everything healthy and in check IMO.

Nice to see another Cleveland Porsche , i'll keep a look out for you on my frequent blasts...

Cheers, that sounds more like I would expect.

I didn't pass you in Loftus a week or so back did I? There can't be too many black GT2's kicking around.

If it was the weekend then yes on my way to Whitby on the coast road. Grew up in Easington as a kid so I know the area pretty well.

Lancer Evo is a 2.0 engine I believe (about 150hp /ltr)? It's alot more stressed and so needs new oil more frequently. 996 Turbo is a larger engine with a larger oil capacity producing less hp/ltr.

Bear in mind there is a lot of oil in a 911. I reckon Porsche engineers probably did a bit of research into oil life cyles etc and that 12,000 miles has a degree of engineering safety margin built in.

I can't see a downside to spending the money to change the oil at more regular intervals - but I doubt it makes any real difference to the oil or the engine - but a difference to peace of mind.

Small world. I live in Easington. Probably see you around again sometime.

Thanks to all for the advice - I think for the sake of a filter & oil I'll change every 6k. I'll sleep easier that way.
