Annoying Mazda Ad.
Discussion
Garlick,
Thanks for your offer of help.
I've no problem with adverts - someones got to pay your wages.
My only problem with 'roll-over'ads is that many don't have an obvious close button or X.
With the advert in question, try as I might, I couldn't find a way of closing it.
Even if I'd been interested in the car it could have put me off, at the time it stopped me doing what I wanted to do - slightly annoying.
Don't know if it will help but I've dipped in (to Pistonheads) several times today and the ad has gone. But with FF I don't have to log in every time - if that makes a difference??
Email me or post here if I can help further.
One other thought.....
Most,if not all, browsers have 'pop up' blockers, how long before they have 'roll over' blockers?
What next for the ad industry
Steve

All adverts get fully tested in multiple browsers before they are allowed on the site, and if the advert provided by the ad company doesn't pass a specific browser then we block the ad serving to any users with that browser. In the terms of the mazda ad we didn't see any problems with this advert in FF 2.0 as it only expanded when rolled over. Looks like that for some users the ad is permantly expanded and we will look into this, and possibly block for browsers it is causing problems on.
This advert makes my piss boil. It doensn't roll down unless I mouse over it, which is at least one thing, but what it does to is disable the links embedded in the numbers near the top right of the page that you click to go to the next page in the thread... Whether I've moused-over the ad or not. I accept that web sites have to have ads on but I hate any ad that interferes with my use of the web site. I've actually boycotted some sites because of their ongoing use of these adverts and unwillingness to use something less obtrusive even after I've e-mailed them to explain that any links in the area that the ad 'rolls over' become dead.
