Poor handling !
Discussion
I have recently blamed new tyres for the change in handling of my car, to find that the it’s the car setup. The wheels are pointing in all directions, similar to the cartoon drawings that you see on T shirts !
Anyway does any body have the steering/suspension geometry settings for Mk1 to hand ?

My setup was done a couple of years ago by TopCats in Aylesbury following the installation of adjustable Nitron shocks. It transformed the handling.
The list of figures they gave me is as follows:-
N/S Front: camber 1. Toe in 5. Caster 24(cold tyres). Rebound 12. Weight 304.
O/S Front: camber 1. Toe in 5. Caster 24(cold tyres). Rebound 12. Weight 305.
N/S Rear: Camber 1. Toe in 10. Caster 24(cold tyres). Rebound 14. Weight 271.
O/S Rear: Camber 1. Toe in 10. Caster 24(cold tyres). Rebound 14. Weight 274.
Please dont ask me what it all means, i dont know!!
However, she is a joy to drive, both on the road and track. TopCats are a race team who deffo know what they are doing.

I have just put a set of Toyo T1R's 255 / 35 / 18's all round, replacing the previous SO2's 235 / 255 / 35's.
In my opinion the handling on uneven country lanes has vastly improved. The front end is not as twitchy, the car stays in a straight line and feels sure footed, not as it used to, it felt as if it wanted to jump into hedge bottoms!

It was after fitting the new toyos that things went bad !
Its not the tyres fault, there is at the very least too much neg camber on the rears, so much so only the inside edge of the tyre is making sufficient contact. The rest of the tyre stays cold. Added to that i believe that the O/S/R tyre is toeing in by 1/2 mile !
The old tyres have been on since new and had worn to suit the suspension setup, so i didn't feel it so bad.

Get your car down to the garage for a laser alignment then!
