Some money appeared in my current account as if by magic, with the above reference. No other info, and I've no idea what it is. Anyone seen it before? My best guess is some sort of tax refund?

thanks!

Did you ever find out what this entry was? We've had exactly the same thing come up in our bank account. The tax office say it's not them and the bank have no idea.

Sorry about that, it's mine, can you send me a cheque?

Lol! I've come to the conclusion that if I spend it, the bank will probably decide it's a banking error, but at least then I'd know!

Why not ask the bank?

If you have been paid some money erroneously (i.e. the money really belongs to someone else), you could be charged with a criminal offence if you take no steps to find out who it really belongs to and paid back.

I asked HSBC, they said the only extra info they had is the sort code and account number from whence the money originated, however the data protection act prevents them from giving me those details. Not that those details would necessarily help me find out who owns the account.

If you know for sure it isn't yours, you should really instruct the bank to cancel the transaction.

NL income account could relate to a Nationwide Life policy paying out or a dividends. Other than that could be from Netherlands.

If you are worried send it to me and I will worry for you

Me too!
I got money from NL INCOME ACCOUNT, and the only place on the web that mentions it is this discussion...

... but I think the answer is... npower.
I changed electricity supplier from them, and they credited my overpayments from the NL INCOME ACCOUNT. Fortunately, my building society were able to give me their details.

Hope this helps!

You may have something there.. I use NPower, and indeed they cut my electricity payments to £8 a month as I was overpaying but barely using any, so perhaps I got a refund. I'll check the bills - thanks!
