Just after some opinions really...

I've been following 355 prices overthe last year or so and there are some great ones (98/99 16k-20k) going for around the mid - low £40k mark...

Are the prices going to flatten soon...? I can't see good 355's dipping below £40k can you...?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I've seen RHD 355's as low as 35k with LHD at 30k and those were advertised prices so probably sold for less.

I personally think the bottom end will be around the 35k mark for early cars and mid 40's for late cars.

If you want low mileage and immaculate condition car currently you'll still pay close to 50k.

condition and history's everything on 355 . I actually think prices have held up reasonable well over last 15 mths or so - i sold spider for 42.5k in Apr '06 - and wouldn't be surprised to see them dip a touch. Realistically priced clean cars will always sell while the dreamers are still offering theirs at high 40s /early 50s.
Mid 30s/early 40s is value IMHO for most of them

you arent going to get a warranty for this Ves--your just going to have to have the B*alls...having come from Porsches to Ferraris- I can tell you its worth it (however, the 355 vs 360 debate is similar to the 993 vs 996 debate)

What he said, assuming the car's honest.

And don't be silly about mileage, number of owners etc etc. If you spot a good car, and a fair price is being asked, don't mess around or you'll lose out!

They are very much worth the hype. One of Ferrari's best ever IM<often espoused>O.

Make sure you use Clubscuderia as a resource if looking.

I would love to buy one, but need a black F1 with RHD and they are quite rare seemingly......My friends also tell me they cost fortunes to run?.....If anyone has one and could give an idea of yearly costs that would be great.....

No sir. Ferrari Power warranty. Seems decent enough.

Taking in depreciation, could a £40k 355 be the cheapest route to Ferraridom for 1 year?

i agree with you to a point tony, but as for prices i have just sold my S reg 23k mint GTS for just under £50k having had a trade bid of £45k and had a couple of people on it, i now have a mint T reg red with cream 355 spiderF1 and would expect simular money for it when i come to sell it later in the summer, the difference between a mint fully main dealer serviced car (every year) and an average patchy history car is massive, these are the cars that are late £30's and the late mint cars are late £40's, as always these cars are only worth what someone is willing to pay!!

Whilst I'm happy for you to keep your balls to yourself, the previous poster had it...

I believe Ferrari are currently sorting some "issues" with their warranties. So you can't get them at the moment.

And even when you could, the only half decent one they did could only be put on cars up to 8yrs old (and fully main dealer serviced). Last cars were out in 1999...

Very good indeed. (Presumably the car was fully up to date with services?).

But I'm still with Tony on general values for sound usable cars.

Typical high performance car running costs IMO - budget 3k per year and if you buy wisely you'll have some money saved over your ownership.

Mine cost around 1.30 per mile when taking EVERYTHING I ever spent on the car into account (including such necessities as a decent exhaust, stereo, insurance, fuel, yadda yadda).

If you're fussy about colour (outside and inside), model (GTB, GTS, Spider) and transmission (F1, Manual), they're all pretty rare!

I woudl expect the cost per mile to be even less for someone buying one now as depreciation should be negligible, and as long as you service them properly (and buy a good one) I don't see that they'll get dramatically more expensive to run.

The GTS had had a belt service 4 months prior to selling, servicing was at Graypaul, same as my spider that had belts done earlier this year, when i was looking for a 355 i came across a number of them that were due a major service and belts, they only needed a few other bits and you would end up spending a 2-3 thousand pounds easily. the key thing with these cars is to get them inspected and any work needed deducted from the sale price so at lest you go in with your eyes wide open!! i'm on my 3rd 355 now and find them to be very reliable and not too expensive to run, if you are thinking about buying one i cant recomend them highly enough, go for it!!!!

Bugger off back to the Porsche forum will you - I'm looking to pounce soon myself and don't anyone else pushing up the prices. I thought I'd made my mind up and then I drove a 360 - dam! 355 has got to be a sensible choice though both financially and because IMO it's already the classic the 360 will probably never be.

As I said..sounds like the 993 vs 996 debate...

Nice thing about the 360 is that its still not too dissimilar from Ferrari's current design language and so doesnt look dated- it also has overtones of the Dino which is nice....but there again the 355 was the pinnacle of Ferrari's 80s design language-which was great and you are right-its a classic in the making...not sure the 360 will be..but then I have an MG and a Damiler to fulfil my classic needs...
