Go up to 111mph. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/6

Shame it doesn't help with the radio, helicoptors and cars...

(Seriously though, sorry to see that one of the BiB didn't make it back. Never good).

doubt it, this has been a problem since at least the early 90's with bmw police bikes .it used to get blamed on
the sirens hanging off one side .

The solution surely would be to involve the manufacturer in the design of any attachments?

Hang on, so they fit loads of kit to these bikes and no one thinks it might be a good idea to see how it might affect the handling, as a result an officer dies.

Either that or use Triumph Rocket Threes. No way a bit of extra drag would destabalise one of those monsters.

The old "wobble and weave" ...

About, 8 years ago an officer was killed due to this in Surrey, on the A3 at the Burpham sliproad, nr. Guildofrd.

I think 4 officers on a training run, all at the same speed as they came up to the bridge, all got the "wobble and weave" at the same time and I think all came off, and sadly one died.

It's been a known issue for quite a while ...

I saw a 911 going down the hard shoulder at 155 on one of those police, camera programs and the helicopter couldn't keep up yikes - they had to hand it over to another helicopter up ahead to keep track of it.

He ran out of fuel eventually and was caught when he stopped at the filling station.

...as for that story - why have they waited until someone died till they took those bikes out of service?Sounds like it was a known problem and they just kept on using them regardless. Life is cheap it seems.

So, begs the Q. how fast can the choppers go? I thought they were 200 mph or some thing close.
On an open piece of motorway, I am sure there will be a lot of everyday cars that will run far in excess of 155.

You are in trouble if you are in Hants, they use an Britten Islander plane with a top speed of just over 200mph.

Only flemke on an empty motorway is going to stand a chance hehe

If that was the chase on the M4, the helicopter could keep up. He just cut the corners whilst the camera operator kept the car in view. It's not unusual to hand over to another force helicopter when low on fuel. There could be any number of reasons for running low. For all you know they could have diverted from another job.

Look at the isle of Yer Mann TT races, it's only been in the last couple of years they had a helicopter capeable of keeping up with the bikes all the way round.

I was told that the bikes were never designed for high speed pursuits, more diplomatic purposes and other jobs that didnt require traffic cars
