Sat Nav Head Unit
Discussion
Hi
Having recently purchased my first 911, a 2001 C2 tip in silver (from Autobahn who were very very helpful)
its fitted with the CDR22 cd unit, which is great - I have been looking through ebay, there are several Becker units which I think are the same make, with sat nav etc
Am I right in thinking these are the same make as the one fitted in mine and if so could I upgrage it? is it easy to do?
which model should I have, if I am to get one, give my budget is next to nothing (till Ive paid for the car in 2020ish)as in keeping the car as it should be (just lost my Mk1 Karman GTI which was totally original, a very sad loss)
or should i just leave as is and use my wife's tom tom (which is about a month old) if i need sat nav?
Are there any local porsche meets, looking to learn more about this car given its my first? (im in the midlands if it doesnt say)
and is this Zymol stuff worth all the fuss, or am i safe sticking with my Autoglym cupboard?
all views welcome
thanks
Jon

A becker unit will fit in and look the part. You will however, need a GPS antenna and also there is small wiring modification that is needed. I fitted one once and called Putnoe Radio Service to buy the antenna and for advice to fit/rewire.
The TomTom may work better and be more up to date however.

Drop me a line if you want any more info. The head units have come down in price a bit since I did mine.

I have just fitted a Becker Cascade. The Sat Nav is ok...although not full 7 digit post code so entering the addresses can be fiddly.
Only other problem is it keeps crashing! The radio turns itself off occasionally for no apparent reason.
Looks great in the 996 though and iPod connectivity is fantastic
