120D has arrived!!!!!

Well the Z4 has now departed and hopefully for the next owner it will now be a fully sorted and very quick car.
Anyway that is now history and the 120 M Sport has arrived.
Spec is:
Le Mans Blue
Black Leather
18" wheels from the 130i
Sat Nav
Hifi upgrade
Bluetooth
Electric Seats
Auto Lights/Wipers
Cruise
Front Parking sensors
Xenons inc Adaptive Lights
Most of the above came as 3 packs and thus saved a lot of money over the individual option prices.
I have so far done 80 miles in it and I am really very impressed. The ride is leagues ahead of the 120D M Sport that I drove last September. I don't know how much is down to the different tyres, this new one is fitted with goodyears rather than bridgestones. If I am honest on rough roads the 318i M Sport was an awful handful and i dont know if that was down to the Bridgestones or the tyre pressures.
At the moment after a hard drive it is return just short of 40 mpg and i'm expecting it to get better as the miles clock up.
The dealer had a ne 3 door 130iM Sport LE in the showroom. It looked good, but the cs wheels just don't work on it.

Congratulations - almost the same spec as my 130i
I guess they've changed the suspension settings since my car was built at the end of 2005. It has 18" Goodyear runflats (NCT5s?) and rides like they forgot to take the transport blocks off the dampers!

If its manual and you do the odd longer run in it, you should see quite a bit more than 40mpg. Depending how you drive it of course. On occasion ive scraped 50mpg+ from mine, and thats an auto.
Once past 6000 miles or so, you'll notice mpg's pick up further. At least that was my experience. Mine still only has 9k on the clock now (at 2 years old), so could perhaps improve a little more yet.

Ok well I have now done 230 miles.
I absolutely love it!!!!!!!!! Probably because my expectations for the 1 series were not that high bearing in mind the reputation the 1 series has got itself.
The auto stop start takes some getting used to, but overall the car is already showing lots of potential that it will be a little cracker. I dont think I will ever see the high 50's that it should be able to do, but I am quite happy with the low 40's that I am getting at the moment.

Have you activated the gear change indicator? thats a novel feature, when I'm not in a rush I see if I can get the gear changes right without the car telling me!
*your dealer will be in with the headmaster if he finds out they have a 3 door on display!!
How does the ride compare between the E87 on 18"s and the Z4? I've heard a lot of talk regarding the Z4 being a bit of a last-minute bargain on the runflat design front, and newer models being better. Well they can't be any worse anyway...

The Z4C was fitted with 18" wheels wearing Bridgestones and after I reduced the tyre pressures (they were too high when it was delivered) it was much better.
It still remained a bit unsettled at speed on rough roads despite making the change to the pressures.
Having said this and bearing in mind it is was a sportscar the ride was much much better than my E90.
The best thing I can say about the 120D is that there is a significant improvement in the ride on that experienced in the Z4.
You won't be dissapointed i'm sure with your 120i.

You need to shout that a bit louder, old chap!!! I've been driving the car for the last 2 days to work, and I'll have it again tomorrow when I co up to Coventry to see my Dad. Gotta admit, I was not a fan of the 1-series when it came out, but this car has exceeded my expectations in terms of speed, spec, looks etc. However, the system where the engine cuts out when you are stsionary does take a bit of getting used to - e.g., at the lights, if you stick her in neutral, foot on brake, but off clutch, the engine cuts out to save fuel. As soon as you put foot on clutch and into gear, she fires up again!!!
