If anyone is interested, either post here or contact me through the advert.

Many thanks,

Quick question if you don't mind?

If it's a vintage chassis number , but built in '05 , what does the cars log book show?

This has very important implications if exporting , re tax.

Thanks guys, it was built to be as nice as I possibly could make it!

The car was completed during 2005, but the chassis is from a 1972 IRS Beetle. As such, it's tax exempt (road tax that is, I couldn't tell you about any other tax implications).

nice but i've no idea on the prices of these things - the only other one on PH was at 14995 and of course the PS way overpriced replica's (imho).

What sort of price range is this in?

You can pay high 30's for some of the replicas around. Those tend to be the ones with a custom tubular chassis, which to me takes something away from the car. When Porsche origianlly made the 356 in the 50's, they had no money so used Beetle chassis / engines - I wanted to stay true to the original, so wen tht esame route but with some slight modernisations (IRS rear suspension, disc brakes, supportive / adjustable seats).

As per the ad, a car to this spec from Chesil is about £32K for a new customer order. Sensible offers with this in mind will be entertained.....

Aah, that "sensible" word!! Means very different things to different people!!

Are you the same Mark H who used to have a Mk2 G60, white, ex Club GTI?

how much does a kidney fetch nowadays?

£32K is the guide for what a car like this costs. The word sensbile refers to the dreamers who think that £10K is a good offer... it's not. Recently I've seen Speedsters with similar mileages for sale between £27K and £32K, neither of them have been as well finished as mine. That said, I'm realistic in that I realise a car is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.

Yes I used to have a G60 Golf. It funded the Speedster and now the Speedster will be funding an Atom. It's the neverending circle of a petrolhead ;-)

do you really have a carpeted garage??

(in which case I can see why you went for a Chesil rather than a 996 or a boxster)

I have seen a number of Chesils with less than 5k miles at the £16k mark. The car in question is undoubtedly gorgeous, but unless original speedsters are all over £100k, £30k for a replica doesn't really make sense. The headrest seats are a bit of an anomaly, but apart from that it looks geat.

Good luck with the sale - may help to put an actual asking price on the ad though.

Looks lovely but £30kish, I dont think so,

Yes, I do have a carpeted garage. It just makes working on our cars a bit more comfortable ;-) I must be geting old!

Speedsters are very spec dependant, hence the price ranges. If you're going to do your own chassis work, drop in an old engine and just buy a Chesil body, then you can do them very cheaply. Get them to do it for you and you can name your price.

Well spotted with the seats. High back, headrest seats came later than '56 and I think appeared on the 356 "C". They make driving much more comfortable than the original low backed buckets.

I've seen £60K for an original Speedster that needed work..... I think if you've got an original that's in show condition, it's a name your price kind of car!
