Hi

Has anyone any experience of these?

I'm looking at Photobox, as I need the option of public viewing and the ability to sell prints. Any other site suggestions?

Thanks

Another vote for photobox.

Depend on what you want, it may be worth you having a look at www.theimagefile.co.uk
They are the chaps that host my www.apictureofsuffolk.com site.

Really easy to use. Stunning service & easy back end for managing galleries etc.

If you plan to sell prints, would your own unique website be better?

You could get a domain and hosting package from PHer Jamie Beeston on www.register1.net and
it could be pretty inexpensive (depending on what you want) to have your own photo store site?

Happy to give some pointers if you wanted to PM me? yes

Sorry to nudge in Cuban, but I've had my own website for 13 years, and still would recommend Photobox, as they do all the selling, paying, printing and delivery (next day) - and it's completely free to upload and store photos. I sell about 60 a year and for that volume, doing it 'DIY' I would be running at a loss. (Printing, packing, P&P and hassle)

All IMHO of course.

Hi

Thanks for the info, think in the short term, as I need it for the coming weekend I'll start with photobox.

Small world, I pulled up behind V6GTO, at a junction by the Ace Cafe on Monday night!

Cheers

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but Photobox reserve the right to use any of your images for their own use...

yea but no but...

They are allowed to display any pics uploaded to their site to promote their site (which I don't mind) - but the photographer retains full intellectual copyright to the photos... they can't go off and sell them!

Actually - if you read the small print they are actually allowed to modify any image uploaded, but lets face it, they ain't going to change the wheels on a pic of my car, but they have to cover themselves in case of obscenity etc.

For someone who is so aggressive when it comes to defending his copyright, I must admit I am surprised that you agree to their T&C's. Granted they aren't going to change the wheels on a car, but they could take a crop of one of your photos (eg a landscape) and re-market it...

Am I aggressive in defending my copyright? Hmmmm.

None of the photos on my website are watermarked, most are available free of charge as screensavers and wallpaper... When I take photos of local events all the photos are available free of charge to whomsoever.

The only time I get a bit miffed is when someone takes those photos and tries to sell them as their own work. It says quite clearly on my site that "photos cannot be used without permission - usually granted". I mean would you get a bit pi55ed at that?

Also, all the money I make from selling photographs via Photobox goes to charity (or at the moment www.kiva.org ) so I think I'm about as relaxed as a relaxed thing when it comes to copyright. Maybe that's why I have no problem with the remote possibility that Photobox might use one of my photos on a website to promote itself.

OK, perhaps aggressive is the wrong word. Yes, I can understand you getting miffed at someone passing your work off as their own, however you don't seem to mitigate that risk, as you've admitted.

Merely an observation, no offence intended.
