Considering purchasing a Monaro VXR..........
Discussion
Hello all,
Been toying with the idea for a while now since seeing it on top gear mainly.
I have about 15-20k.
Cheapest VXR ive found is 20k so that would be great!
Is there anything i need to worry about or watch out for when purchasing.
Does anyone have any certain performance figures for one ? 0-60/0-100/top speed etc
It will mainly be a work car so any problems using for this please advise.
I also in the next year or so want to upgrade numerous bits on it for as much power as possible. Any ideas on power per pound would be great also.
I would appreciate your advice.
Regards Gareth

Hi gareth, great name (but only if your surname is Holden!) I bought mine (04 VXR with 13k miles)for £20k ish approx 6 months ago, also use it for work, economy is ok on motorway 25-27 mpg, but can drop drastically when giving it some. Several things to check which should be sorted under warranty, membranes in door can leak which results in rear footwells getting wet, paint on door handles can peel.
When it comes to tuning the world is your oyster, most people go to Wortec for exhaust/remap, then you need to decide whether you want forced induction or normally aspirated. It would be worth having a chat with Roger at Monkfish who always seems to have time to explain the pros and cons.
Don't forget brakes and suspension, even with standard horsepower these are the least impressive part of the standard package.
Good luck
Gareth

I`m have an 06VXR with a Supergharger running 500BHP and to be honest the option craze is so strong i`m thinking about more power now, even though I promised myself I would`nt. (caspy take note will be tapping you up for a decider spin soon)
This means stronging up the whole car, brakes suspension power delivery etc.
All these things really start to cost.
I love my car to bits but if I had to start again I personally would buy an 04 CV8. All the extrs money spent on a newer upmarket model is wasted because you`ll be takin it all off anyway.
Most importantly, regardless of which model you choose, if speed is your goal, make sure you get a Black one.
