Audi TT Clubsport Roadster

300bhp wide-arch TT coupe

This is Audi’s latest concept car – the TT Clubsport Roadster ‘study’.

As you can see from the images, it takes a regular production TT Roadster, and remixes it with classic Porsche Speedster design cues, but with an altogether more modern interpretation.

Although it’s referred to as only a ‘study’, Audi is making noises about the possibility of a very limited production run later this year. Expect the Clubsport to also point the way to a more powerful version of the standard car – dubbed TT S.

Of course, there’s the chopped down screen, roll hoops and fairings in classic speedster style. But there’re also some subtle changes to the front that might be more applicable to future production cars. The Clubsport gains the menacing LED daytime running lights as fitted to the S6, and the huge grille is filled with aluminium inserts – highlighting it even more. The four rings of Audi have been moved from their usual home in the grille to the top of the bonnet.

There are no exterior door handles, smaller mirrors, and a shade of Daytona grey usually reserved for the RS4 and S8 models. Audi has finely detailed the under-bonnet area, and removed the engine cover so you can see appreciate their work. A/C has hit the skip floor, and Audi is proud of the new strut brace that also contains the coolant expansion tank.

Thankfully, the Clubsport is more than just a designer play thing. It uses the two litre direct injection turbo engine from the Audi S3, and builds upon the already strengthened specification of that engine (over the regular Golf GTi/ A3 Turbo) with a modified air intake, racing air filter and a sports exhaust. The result is over 300bhp and the promise of some purposeful sound effects.

The Clubsport is fitted with the S-tronic transmission (once known as DSG) with the gear lever and surround lifted from the Audi R8 supercar.

The swollen wheel arches accommodate a wider track (by 80mm) and 20” alloy wheels with 265/30 R20 tyres. Ceramic discs provide plenty of stopping power, and orange callipers look, well, that’s a personal viewpoint…

This concept may well split opinion, but there’s no doubter the appeal of a wide-arch TT coupe with over 300bhp. Roll on the ‘S’ model…

Is it wrong that I like that? A lot? Polishing a poo & suceeding comes to mind, especially in that colour combo with the RS4 wheels... lick

it just looks kinda wrong side on. Im all for original design, but the windscreen isnt really a windscreen, not if you're slightly tall atleast. Interior has potential though Either way, respectable, but faaaar from perfect.

300bhp from the 2 litre engine....? By changing the air filter and adding a 'sports' exhaust....

Crikey, didnt realise it was so tuneable....

Nice, but not the most pratical of cars. Cant see it ever making production persoanlly.

The new GTI Edition 30 can put out 300Bhp, with just a remap

that just looks so solid.

i like it. i wasnt a fan of the first tt - it was a little too feminine looking in my opinion but i thought the new one was an improvement and this is better still.

however if its good it isnt that far down on R8 power and could still the bigger cars limelight a bit - kinda like the caymen did

I have to say that this really hits the spot for me. yes
Except for the grill... scratchchin

I've already got one car without a roof, and if this actually makes it into production I'll be seriously looking into it and have this instead. If they could keep weight down this could be a real hoot (not actually driven a TT2 to know what they're like...).

to me that just looks sooo right

love the new tt, esp over the original bubble thingy... and this just looks like it means 'fun' all day long

can see country lanes and great driving roads being eaten up mile after mile without a second thought other than removing the squashed bugs on your face!

That looks to me like a big, fat, heavy shoe. Or a roller skate.

It has presence but absolutely zero grace.

I'm not sure what the concept proves. Who would want a TT with no windscreen or roll protection? What about "safe" Audi brand values?

If you want screenless motoring, buy a seven or something else fit for purpose. This is just lame.

Are you lot on drugs?

One would look like a muppet driving that. It looks like a compressed and stunted version of that awful Audi SUV only weirder.

Just looks too deep somehow.

Squash the bit from the base headlights to the bottom of the bumper down by 4 inches and then lower appropriately and it'd look tons meaner and more Roadstery...

I love it!

This is one of the most interesting new cars since the Elise. I hope they build it - and you can guarentee that the brits will buy most of them, due to our loverly weather!

Presumably this is designed for track days etc... But to me it looks far too big and bulky for that kind of activity. Bloody ugly as well!
