NO Mustang or Corvette for the UK
Discussion
The Ford Mustang GT will not be sold here or in Europe when it appears at the end of 2004. According to Ford 'The Mustang has never been imported to Europe and there is no reason for it to start this time'.
Likewise the new Corvette C6 while being sold in Europe will not be sold in the UK, possibly. GM said 'It is coming to Europe, but it's not worth our while to sell it in the UK because there is a natural aversion to left hand drive.''There is talk of producing it in right hand drive, but we are waiting to see the volumes for South Africa to find out if it is worthwhile.'
So if you wanted one you'll have to personally import it.

Ford is not quite right about never having imported Mustangs to Europe. I'm not quite sure of the details, but I think the mustang was re-badged T5 (with all Mustang insignia removed) and was either imported to, or built in, Belgium in 1965/66.
As far as I know, this was a full factory effort, not a local dealer project.
I do a bit of reading up, but if anyone else has info...

You don't really want the Mustang anyway. Trust me, if there is ANY Ford product you want, it's this one:

And exactly why don't we want a 400BHP meaty modern take on the classic 1967-69 fastback made famous by Steve McQueen, eh? Or that (and I know this is not always the best reccomendation you can give) Jeremy Clarkson in the Sunday times not long ago described it as one of the world's most desirable cars? Huum?

It'll be better made than any TVR or Lotus....just like my Corvette really. Don't be such a car snob

Car snob is kind of harsh don't you think? It's my understanding that people that generally frequent PH like to take corners with limited body roll. The Corvette, as a matter of fact, fills that role nicely and I would recommend it over a Mustang (any Mustang) any day. If you want to go from stoplight to stoplight very fast - get the Mustang. If you want a more immersive driving experience get a Corvette, TVR, Lotus, Maser, etc, etc...

you are correct, the mustang was sold in mainland europe as the t5,but not in britain unfortunatly (i read the article in classic american magazine)apparently it was called t5 because mustang meant something else in one country or another (cant remember exactly which one and i cant look it up at the moment 'cos im at work)
My dad owned a 197(3?) Ford Mustang Mach 1 with a 351 Cleveland Engine and straight through copper exhausts (highly illegal but think TVR Wedge x 3!!)
I would love to own one of these more modern beasts and I'm sure they can corner now...
