Is the LS7 basically a LS2 with larger internals? If that is the case then a retrofit would be possible? scratchchin

Its a 500bhp crate V8 which is fitted to the Zo7 corvette.

Dont think its a straightforward fit in electronic terms (as opposed to physical size).

bit more info on the ls7 - and you can even buy one from their dealer network...

and a bit more info from their catalogue..

• Comes assembled with 14” Corvette Z06 168 tooth flywheel.
• Comes with 58X reluctor wheel and camshaft sensing and is not
compatible with pre-'06 ECMs.
• LS7 is the same size and mounts the same as previous
LS series engines.
• ECU and wiring harness kit, P/N 19166567, available for
non-Corvette applications. Kit includes electronic throttle pedal,
which is required for throttle input to the ECU (see page 298).

it's also dry sumped and the front cover's deeper iirc which could cause some issues if attempting to wet sump it.

Stock LS7 is girly. Displacement is nice, but you can beat the power for half the price with something like a 402 or something.
I was only 20rwhp off a LS7 with my 5.7L. Its only good for bragging rights. Of course if you put a better cam in it then its another story.
My vote is this little blighter www.sdparts.com/product/SDL92SB416D10/L92416ciShortBlockAssembly.aspx

What is the rwhp on a LS7 and what was it on your car? Were both measured on same dyno?

Thats a seemingly bizarre comment, which presumably features an assumed drive train loss for your car and an assumed rwhp output for an LS7?????????

Same dyno same rwhp figures no assumptions etc, direct measurement at Surry RR. Vixpy1 can confirm. Nobody in US or Oz uses FWHP so I dont use them either.
Cars were Dave and Eric's LS7's in stock form. One was 405 the other 408 from memory.

Of course mine isnt stock.. its got heads, cam, fast90 intake, otrcai, full length headers, mafless tune etc, but you get the picture.

May I recommend the USA for a holiday. Just take a good bag that can fit a pair of heads! Then you can get the pair for £1300.

Am I, and GM, missing something here???

Why produce a 'girly' engine to go into their premium sports models ?? Surely HP is all about bragging rights not engineering, reliability, longevity etc etc ??

GM seem to have a history of producing an engine 'series' that starts relatively low in power relative to its displacement etc, and phasing 'improvements' over time. LS7 or a cammed LS1 ?? LS7 please, its a higher starting point.

Cost is all important I know, but, a little harsh to refer to it as 'girly'!!

Yeah tongue and cheek

Superchargers? Sports exahust? Tunes etc all help sort out the stock "girly" engines.
Most on this forum have modified theirs because they are strangled and restricted from the factory.

Much like a rugby player forced to tie his shoe laces together.. Hey I wouldnt have chosen a GM engine if I didnt think it had potential.

I think you will find those "improvements" you speak of severely limited by warranty periods, cost implications and emissions laws. (Uprated clutches and diff's anyone?)

In my experience GM produce something really great but after a while and maybe due to cost they offer or phase in something cheaper for the masses. They so it with componant parts as well. I reckon the ls7 will be phased out which is probably why their sending them to OZ. There may even be surplus. That's where they shipped the last ls1's when the ls6 became popular. Also, I can't see Corvette being offerred with the ls7 and a s/c rival. One of them has to go and it'll be the one which makes least profits.

One of the US forums had some internal docs showing the LS7 running through to 2010 interestingly enough.
I want to know what the LS3 engine is. I think that will arrive in the HSV soon.
6.2L GenIV and L92 heads.

Isnt the LS3 the base engine that replaces the now dead LS2 in Corvettes and HSV's?
