A drink-driver who was caught after police chased his car on bicycles has been jailed.

James Watts, 37, who was three times over the limit, crashed into three cars during the 40mph pursuit through Oxford, Thames Valley Police said.

He was sentenced yesterday at Oxford Crown Court to four months in prison after pleading guilty to dangerous driving and drink-driving. He was also disqualified for three years.

The pursuit began when Watts, a builder from Sandford-upon-Thames, refused to put on his seat-belt when told to by the officers on April 5.

They chased him on bikes from Cowley Road, east Oxford, through several streets before his Ford Escort collided with the vehicles.

The court heard Watts nearly collided with one of the officers during the chase through the city's busy roads.

Cars are a waste of time in Oxford.
The roads are always clogged up with traffic, and parking is very expensive.
