Just bought a 1997 Chimaera, after a few miles the engine was running 'lumpy' at low revs.
When I opened the bonnet I could hear a clicking noise.

On closer inspection I noticed there was continous Electrical Arcing from where the King lead enters the coil onto the spade terminals on the coil.
Gave the coil terminals a quick clean & replaced the spade connectors onto the coil.
Seems alot better but still the odd Arc in the same place.

Anyone else had this problem?
Should I spend more time cleaning up the terminals or replace the coil?
Is the King lead moulded into the coil or can it be replaced?

Advice would be much appreciated.......

If it's following a track in the coil end cap, it will need replacing unfortunately. You need to disconnect everything to get a proper look. If no track is evident it might clean up. The king lead is detachable from the coil: just pull it. The rubber boot may be sticking a bit if it's been on a long time.

Nearly forgot to ask, does Bosch coil normally come with King lead?
If not, is it best to buy an aftermarket performance King lead?

The Bosch coil (PRC6574) is not supplied with a king lead, but it does come with the proper 'Lucar' spade connectors, so it's a direct, plug-in replacement. But beware when you order it: they seem to have changed it recently from a cylindrical coil to something that looks nothing like the original, although the part numbers are the same. If you shop around you should be able to get one for under £40.

Thanks, ordered one from ACT £40 plus £10 for decent king lead
Phoned around Range Rover dealers & they wanted £75 plus VAT for coil

Thanks again for help from everyone

Fitted new Bosch coil & king lead, no more arc-ing!
Still running lumpy though....

Plugs were all changed baout 4 weeks ago & all new leads were fitted July last year, aroud 5K miles ago, so doubt its that

I though maybe take out plugs & clean incase its running rich, worth a try?

Any ideas folks?

my lumpy running was traced to a missing seal at the AFM ie extra air getting in, £7 for a new seal - cured...

Ok, thanks for that

Got fed up with it now, booked it in to local performance car specialist to sort out

Hopefully they ll fix it & it will be cheaper than a TVR dealer.....

Fault traced to cooked HT leads on account of there being no heat sheids on the spark plugs
Leads were changed 9 months ago by a TVR dealer, also plugs were changed 4 weeks ago by same TVR dealer, why weren't they fitted on either occasion?
I've been told by Garage & ACT Performance(HT lead supplier) that they must be fitted to these cars

Also Lambda sensors become old & lazy, may also have to be changed if new leads don't cure problem completly
These seem very expensive (around £100 each), anyone know were I can get cheaper ones if required?

Replaced Heat Sheilds(Plug Extenders) & fitted quality lead set from ACT Performance. 98% better
Lambda sensors will probably have to be replaced at some time in the near future.
Bloody exensive though, £75 each is cheapest i've found....
