How do I remove the standard gear knob from my Chimaera 98 T5 box? Tried the instructions in the bible to no avail. Any (sensible) suggestions or help. please?

It just twists off - anti clockwise

Thanks, but is there a special way of gripping it without marking it? Maybe mine has been superglued on because there's no way it will just twist off.

not sure how you can get it off without damaging it if it is on that tight...i am sure someone has had this problem and will be along soon.

One of those oil fitler removal bbelts should do itm you know, where it has some sort of materail belt rather than a chain, or one of Tommy Walsh's Boa thingies.

I used a large pair of ajustable grips with a rag to protect the metal.

I had the same problem. I didn't relaise until someone pointed it out that it was held firm with a locking collar (Leven Aluminium gearknob). Pull back the gaiter and you should see the collar extending down an inch or so.

I had to use a pair of grips on the collar and then the geraknob came off easily.

Andrew...I removed my knob last weekend ( did I really say that?) to put a new gaiter on

My approach was A) Rubber glove on each hand B) Open Drivers Door and rest elbows on seat squab C) Get hold of said knob with both hands D) Say "Right you B.....d" then turn knob anti clockwise.

Worked a treat for me.
