Never had any problem with speed bumps, i have to navigate through a rake of them to get home from work, and these aren't your normal full width of the road jobbies. these are the straddle type where only the inside of the tyres seems to go over them, look as if the sump is the first place to cop a load of tarmac and the chim rides fine over these

Jules - IF you should catch one check your sump plug! This from an older thread:

Monday 19th June 2006
Yep, same happened to me a few years back, came out to go to work and the drive was full of your best Mobil 1. Sump plug was in by less than 1/2 turn.
As has been said, a slight meeting with a speed hump is all it needs to kock it loose, the engine vibrations do the rest. I dread to think of the consequences of living another 200 yards along the road!

If yours still has the chin spoiler/splitter attached, you'll whack that first - hard enough and you'll see it in the road behind you!

Good luck on Saturday!! Nick.

might be a good idea to order a sump plug from Steve Heaths, for piece of mind.

It has rounded edges so less chance of chance of it catching.

have fun on Sunday , and expect your face to hurt from all the grinning .

For the pillow type humps put one wheel over the hump, the other in the gap beween them. This will keep the wheels in their intended orientation i.e. flat on the road. Straddling them causes a load on the wheel and suspension in a direction its not really intended for load to be carried. Luckily I can go the long way round where I live and avoid the bumps.

My VW Golf failed its MOT recently on suspension bushes, MOT tester told me he carries a wide selection of bushes in stock now as he gets a lot of cars failing on them. He only started seeing this after speed bumps went in all over town.

Be wary of roads with undulating surfaces also!
The compression and rebound on a stiffish spring setup can have you airborne very easily, scary but fun at the same time.
Just be aware, and enjoy your car.AL

What he said! Same has just happened to me but my plug disapeared a mile down the road, 250 miles and a ferry from home. Just got a Steve Heath plug yesterday.

the trick is to slow right down, pop into first gear, clear hump, floor it, enjoying the V8 howl through the straight-through exhaust, lift off, for the pop-crackle, clear the next hump, floor it, listening to the V8 sing, followed by the pop-crackle... that's why they put the speed humps down, right? hehe

depends on your neighbourhood. put a cover on a car in some neighbourhoods and you could come back to a damaged car. i recall a story on here about some guy who covered his TVR and found someone had glued the cover to the bonnet. some people are so lovely.

If you have a splitter fitted then remove it, otherwise it will be removed for you the first time you encounter a speed bump regardless of how slow you go.
