Just been chatting to colleagues about what happens if you get caught driving after a night out. Let's say your stone cold sober, after a night on mineral water, but you did a line of coke a few hours before. Can this be detected? Do the police carry out a test? The effects would have vanished long ago, although would the law see it that way? Would you get a long ban, the same as drink driving?

i think the simple test is:
'Sir, are you God's gift to everything?'

and if you say 'yes', or 'obviously i am, dicknose' then thats a strong sign you've been hoovering the old bronson.

on the other hand, if you don't stop eating your KFC or get the giggles, then you'll be let off with a warning and a complimentary packet of digestive biscuit.

LOL at this thread.

At present I believe there is no roadside test for anything other than alcohol.

However I think that if you are obviously mashed out of your brain and pass the breathalyser test then they can do a 'ad-hoc' sobrietry test i.e. get you to walk in straight line (amongst other things) and if you show definate signs then get you down the station for a blood test...which will show up any other dubious substances and then its long ban and big fines.

so basically as long as you pass the breathalyser and appear to be stragiht you should be alright ...just as long as you havnt got 4 mates in the car and the smeel of grass pouring out of the windows

I'm sure the cop could tell
If your nose looks like a big bore Magnex exhaust (Miss Westbrook for example) its a sure sign you have been snorting the white stuff

Would you get a smaller fine if it was Diet or Cherry? How would they test you? Smell your burps perhaps?
Why not just use Pepsi?

No - there are no road side drug tests in the UK.
COuld be said that a couple of lines would only improve yr awareness

FYI - coke takes 24 - 60 hrs to get out of your system. So only a hair strand test (not used in the UK) would show any positive results

I can remember news stories from a few years ago where plod tested roadside drug testers. IIRC they involved taking a sample of sweat from your forehead. If you had taken certain drugs (can't remember which ones but probably all the good stuff) the swab would change colour.

The technology exists. It can only be a matter of time before it's standard equipment.

Here in the US, a few of our larger manufacturers (sp) have begun testing hair samples for drugs. One particular fellow I know attempted to thwart the test by shaving all (Yes Mrs Fish ALL) his hair. He was not tested but not hired due to the inability to test. He's still in the courts fighting for his job (lost pay ect)
