According to the Owner's Manual (January 1997), gearbox: 1.4 litres Mobil ATF 220, differential: 1.6 litres Mobil SHC 80W 140 ID.

Loads of people have problems getting the Mobil ATF, I found it in Esso petrol stations.

Ah, but where can you get the Diff' oil? The SHC 80W 140ID stuff. It's like asking for winning lottery numbers.

After getting the amounts I needed I have just ordered aload of oil from opieoils, they reccomended the following

Diff
Castrol SAF-XJ 75w-140 (BMW driveline oil incl limited slip)

Gearbox
Castrol SMX-S 75w-85 Fully Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid

Warning on the ATF Mobile used in the gearbox I have seen a few threads of people having had the same problem as me, lost the syncro on 3/4th and when the box was stripped 5th had welded it's self to the saft and had to be cut off, seems that the ATF is the common problem causing this. Hence the above RPI also recommend it.

Also the silkolene Pro S 10-50 is much better than the Mobil 1. About the same price as well.
