Has anyone out there fitted power steering to an originaly non PAS Chimaera?

Surely this cant be a big job. Am i right in thinking you could fit the system by sourcing a PAS pump, new belt, and steering rack with connecting pipes etc?
What car is the steering rack from?

Yes it is possible, but the rack is a TVR special and needs to be sourced from a car with pas. I think Bell hill were doing the kit from a crashed chim or grif with all the hoses and bits for about £650.

The problem is they are quite rare.

Or it is possible to fit and electric PAS column from a corsa, you can use your stock rack as the assistance is applied to the column.

Easy job if you have all the right bits. Did mine about three years ago, all parts came from same year vehicle which had suffered a rear end shunt. Took me a day to remove old rack and fit PAS, then a steady trip down to Offord to have all the alignment re set.

If you go for it, make sure you get the lower steering column from the end of the footwell to the rack as this is different between PAS and non PAS.

The final problem was that the wife could drive but not park it, bad news is that it makes life easier to the point she can now park it.
