As we are heading for a hot summer and I have only had my Chim 400 (96) for 2 months, I want to be sure that the coolant is in tip top condition. I have bought a load of the good stuff and there is some information in the bible. But I dont see the drain in the bottom of the radiatior and Im worried that I could do more harm than good by risking air bubbles in the system etc, like happened in my old VW. Is it straight forward and risk free or am I better off testing the coolant thats there somehow?

Undo the bottom hose to drain off and follow the instructions in the Bible and shouldn't be any problems

Having just fitted a new rad I have gone through this effectively. Interestingly I tried to flush the system by putting a garden hose on the top hose but nothing came out of the bottom hose (heater set to hot) - I presume it was blocked by the thermostat but I thought this had a small bypass. Anyway, I flushed through the top hose then the bottom hose and let the water flush out. I then refilled as per the bible and all seems well...

i find that parking on a hill so the rad is the highest point of the car allowing the air to escape through the breeth nut on the right top of the rad is the best way to change the antfreeze

Nice one, thanks for that. A large 5l can of antifreeze is just not big enough for a 50:50 mix. Annoying isnt it. Thanks again all.
