Whats involved in changing the master cylinder
Discussion
As i think that this is where my problems are.Got in the car this morning after leaving it for a couple of weeks.Started up and couldnt get any gears intially.Pumped the pedal once, then i could get gears.Checked the fluid and that was ok.No leaks under the car,but when i checked around the pedal area i found that around the rubber cover over the master was a bit wet with fluid. But not enough to drip on the floor. Now is it a Clevor Trev part or can i use a Ford one.And whats involved in changing it.Thanks for any help given.

I'm not sure what it is from, I think its from the Ford stable.
To remove it is an awkward, but not Rocket Science job.
Remove the clutch cover from the engine bay, 2 self tappers and a load of mastic hold it in place.
Peer inside with a torch and you will see the 2 bolt heads that hold it in, you may need someone in the fotwell to hold the other ends to stop them turning, then disconnect the rod from the pedal, and fit the new one, then bleed the clutch.
Then keep your fingers crossed and be prepared for the slave cylinder seals to then fail a couple of months later - the increase in pressure from the new Master seems to usually cause them to go !

Hi.
This happened to me last year.
TCS upgraded seal kit
From the drivers footwell, remove piston and old seals and fit new.
Cling film over the resvoir forms a vacume and stops eccess loss.
I think i would rather change the whole thing.Does anyone know if its a Ford part?.If so whats it from,as i can order one later from my local motor factors. This happened to me last year.

The master cylinder is the one fitted to Ford Fiesta XR2 or 1.6i Ghia - check the bore diameter as there were two types used. The one you need for the 4.2 Cerbera is the larger, which is 22mm (sorry, haven't got a part number)

I spotted that in there.
That's the one for the brakes.
We're after the clutch one.

All that hassle for a £40 part and a bit of labour.
