Can you fit a 5.0 clutch in a 4.3? it seems to suggest that the 5.0 one can be used for the 4.5/5.0 or uprated engines, the 4.0 one make no mention of the 4.3.

Agreed, yes. No significant dimensional differences.

When I rebuilt my engine last year it was noticed that my 500 had a 4 litre clutch fitted. No wonder it stunk on fast starts! Bleedin main dealers, fitted the wrong clutch (but probably charged for the 500 one).

So if your going to the trouble of pulling the box out you might as well fit the 5.0 clutch and be done with it, cant imagine there are any downsides?

The only downside is of course it's more expensive, and if your car doesn't need it you're wasting £££'s!

I would have though it would last a little longer, at the end of the day the main cost is the labour getting the box out and back in, can't see a bit extra to delay this is wasting money

Since most 430's seem to be good engines & lot of 500's appear to be something else....

It seems a no brainer to put the stronger clutch in IMHO. I think most 430 owners have used that clutch anyway.
