Hi,

I've been dreaming for years to buy a 911. I've never driven one, and you never know I could fall in the 0.001% of people who doesn't like it! Unlikely Anyway, I've decided to rent a 997 for a week end in order to test drive, and also to convince my wife of the necessity of owning a 911...

We'll be driving to Paris from London via the small roads, with a stop in Normandy in a top hotel / restaurant. Practical question: what size of luggage can I put in the boot and/or in the back seats? Can I put anything bigger than a toothbrush? Madam has a lot of shoes!

Cheers guys

You should easily get a couple of normal size kit bags or medium size suitcase in the boot, and I think the rear seats fold down to give enough space for possibly the same again.
Best to keep everything in the boot if possible so you can enjoy the driving on small winding roads to the full.
Now a weeks supply of shoes for Madam is another thing, and could be a problem !!

Enjoy the trip.

Note - If it's 4WD there will be less boot space !

So would a "BA compliant" cabin suitcase (38 x 55 x 20 cm ish) fit in the front boot?

Boot pretty small but rear seats fold down. Had a very large suitcase in the back of the car with seats down.
Women eh? First priority storage space! When I was loooking for my 996 took Mrs Stubbsy996
to view one. Her first comment was "how on earth do you expect me to fit all my shopping in there?" My answer was "I don't, you'll be getting your mini a bit sooner than you expected"

BTW - How much will it cost you to rent a 997 for a week and where from?

You should be able to get 2 "BA compliant" cabin suitcases in the front boot.

Thanks guys! The wife will need some hard convincing as she's a Jag and Audi fan. Her argument so far is that it's not convenient to transport my golf clubs and her shoes at the same time I think she wants me to buy the new TT roadster!

I've hired it from Avis Prestige: www.avisprestige.com They're cheaper than Guy Salmon and always offer a great service. I've hired a 6 series from them last year, for a similar trip. Loved it.

It's more a question of smart luggage choice than outright storage space. In terms of the latter a 911 offers overall similar space than, say the boot of VW Golf. Two cabin trolleys will fit into the front booth. Then there is still space for a large bag going behind the front seats. Proved sufficient for two weeks vacations in warmer climate and the shopping bags of the muissus.

Xvallee, I just spent the week in the 997s, with wife and newborn baby seat, stroller, pram, 1 wk's worth full baby supplies, wife's 1 wk luggage, my stuff, and used rear passnger foot wells. Rear view was not impaired, safety first, enjoyed the trip.

Flipin heck ... Me thinks you've either got really short legs then - were towing a trailer - had a roof rack - or all 3 !

Just packed my car ready for a week long Loire trip. Put all the motoring stuff like oil can, petrol can and tools in the boot at front with room to spare and put a medium sized suitcase laid flat on the folded down rear seats. I still have room for two rucksacks/bags to go in the rear footwells and space on the rear seats for a further travel bag. So no problems for luggage space really. All the bags/cases are below the rear back seat upper line so no visibility reduction either. :-)

I'm intrigued - a friend, who has a 6-month old, is currently on the hunt for an M5 because we were sure you couldn't fit a stroller and all the other gubbins into a 996. assuming the 997 space isn't that much more so seriously, where did you fit the stroller?

Have owned a 997C2S for two years and now have a 996 Turbo S. Also have a 6 year old. Speaking from experiance over many trips abroad with family, the key is sensible squishy bags. 997 has a deep front boot so can put two bags in there one on top of the other. My turbo has 4x4 so front boot is quite shallow.

Stroller will go in easily. Had two camping chairs, tent, stove all on rear parcel shelf without any lack of visibility!

A word of warnimg be careful packing front boot! Don't have anything sharp or solid ontop as the bonnet skin is quite fragile and is easy to reverse dent!!

Enjoy

Cheers for taking an interest in the "family aspect" of 911 ownership - I thought I was being too domesticated with my posts amongst these RMS, and GT3 posts.

Anyway, we have a Quinny Buzz stroller: the wheels are quick release removable ( all 3 ) and only the frame remaining, it fits neatly into a 2WD front boot. We have rear facing MaxiCosi seat, which fits in the back ( remove seat base, its only Velcro in 997!) No alan key etc required. Let me know if any further Qs. I took advice from Quinny Manufacturer (same as Maxi Cosi) before doing all this.
