Had the car out for the first time in 5 weeks today. The next door neighbours kid decided to cycle into the front bumper: result, 4 inch scratch. at least his mum came into tell me, she didn't offer to pay for the damage though...

yikes .. Would recommend an early conversation about this to clarify - perhaps she assumes it is a given that they will have to pay and that is why she didn't mention it. Hope so because if the expectation is that you will put it through your insurance then she is misguided.

Maybe her house insurance will cover it. I'd go and ask her if she has any.

rIf you want an invisible repair that 'chameleon' paint is really difficult to match exactly, but things may have moved on since I was a paint sprayer so maybe someone here knows different, but I;d advise that you take it to a reputable custom sprayer and get an estimate pronto. Even the paint is something ridiculous like £200 a litre !!

What a shite bit of luck.

That's going to be hard, if not impossible, to match it.

Fair play, the other side should pay for it of course. Such a shame though, obviously an accident but still "responsibility" is the key word. Unfortunately in this day and age this seems to mean little. You mention the Mum and kid, is there also a fella in the house? It may be that she expects you to talk to him since it is a car issue. Not being sexist; but many women would see it that way, out of their comfort zone and all that.

No question, they should pay for the damage, accident or not.

My Range Rover is in for a full respray of the roof for a smaller scratch than that, due to an idiot of a windscreen fitter scratching the roof! I wanted 'scratch away' or whoever to fix it, but when they came and assessed it decideded that the whole roof needs respraying!

I'm feeling you pain dude.
I had a lucky escape the other day, if that's the way to look at it. a kid cycled into the side of my car whilst I was stood next to it yikes the 'lucky' bit was that she rode straight into the front wheel and not the body so the car escaped without damage..

I think I'd better finish there before I head off into a ranting about a lack of respect for other peoples property.....

(Southendpier) an accident it maybe, but its only born out of a lack of care!!! Is the mum aware of what it will cost to fix? I get the feeling she will tray and say you shouldn't have parked there.. sorry I'll stop now!

Hi Gaz,

I had this happen once, basically yoru house insurance covers your kids when they are out and about causing damage to other folks property. They might kick and scream a bit about a full respray but armed with the evidence of the learned chaps on here I doubt they can refuse.

It won't cost your neighbour anything, maybe a little bit of excess, so I reckon its worth going to ask her to claim.

Hope this helps, good luck - maybe get those pods faired in while you're at it eh?
